I'm in Nashville right now visiting my wife's grandfather in hospital. I'm ready to quit my job back home, pack my shite up and move up here

I was just there for a few days. Wasn't for me or the little lady. We went to a small town nearby named Franklin, TN. Really liked it there. I'm a small town boy, if I moved away from LA, it would have to be a move to something similar. I'm just not a big city person. Lafayette is becoming a little much.

Plus I'd miss the hell out of Mardi Gras. And not that parade, catch some beads crap.

An old friend told me this 25 years ago when I moved away . You can always go home but you can never go back!

Now I can't even go home thanks to the flood of 2016.

The 70s &80s were great times in Baton Rouge but now its all gone. Nothing left, nothing good. I wouldve regretted it worse if I stayed.

I have a lot of friends that have left LA. Most of them feel the same way. No regrets at leaving, never want to move back, and feel that "yep this is why I moved away" feeling about 3-4 days into their trip back to LA.

Of my group of really close friends from LA...only one actually still lives in LA now.

I did regret moving away from Louisiana. I moved to Texas and just did not like it. I was basically doing the same things in Texas as I would have been doing in Louisiana but I was away from my family. I could not have been happier to leave Texas. I enjoyed Florida and it was tough to leave. But I still visit all the time.

Most of the people that leave are the ones that come from shitty towns. I'm from Lafayette so there's never been any reason to move away.

I think once you get out its dam near hard to go back. That sounds negative until you see what other cities have to offer compared to most in Louisiana. When i go back now and see alot of the negatives(traffic, crime, poverty, low standard of living etc..) i never noticed growing up there. I will always have louisiana in my heart but will probably never physically live there again.

She absolutely LOVES Vegas and tells me she never wants to move back to LA.

well 6 months is still kinda the honeymoon phase for a new area

and I'm not saying she will move back, but when people make a life changing move like that, they generally want it to work and will often lie to themselves, even if they know it wasn't the best decision

*again...not saying this applies to your friend

literally the only thing keeping me and my wife in LA is family

I live in St Louis and I absolutely love it, I don't regret moving up here at all.

But I do want to move back to Louisiana at some point. That's always been in my plans though, I've never intended this move to be permanent.

Also for them...living in Vegas they can easily fly to visit family or have family come see them since flights to Vegas from LA are usually pretty cheap.

She was tired of living in LA when they moved. Had been ready to leave for a couple years but no job opportunities worth leaving for presented to them. Until Vegas.

I just thrilled she likes it. Vegas is a 4-5 hour drive away from me so I can now see her more often(and now have a free place to stay whenever I want to go to Vegas for a weekend).

I will say this, when I do go back to my hometown and see my friends' homes, there is a bit of house envy there. Knowing what their mortgage is for a larger home with a yard vs. my rent for a one bedroom apartment can sting.

Not at all. Cleaner here, safer, better opportunities, people are more friendly, it's amazing here. Don't miss it a bit.

We did have a lot family there but they all moved out of state too anyways.

I have been gone 25 years, I now am trying to find a way to move back so I can take care of my mother.

I've missed certain things, outdoors etc etc
