I re-downloaded an old app last night that I used to have but forgot about. It's called Sleep Cycle, and it's an alarm wakes you up in a certain time frame based on which stage of sleep you are in. Basically waking you up in your lightest sleep so you don't feel groggy or tired.

Best sleep of my life last night

Something about this quote screams "I'm a 20 year old, 130 lb pizza face virgin".

You've got the virgin pizza face part correct.

I use relax fan. Basically it makes the sound of fans. I mostly use it in hotel rooms or anytime I'm not at home.

I use a similar app called Gentle Alarm. The alarm default duration is something like 8 minutes. The volume starts so low that it won't wake you if you're in a deep sleep cycle. The volume increases as your sleep cycle decreases so you never get surprised by the alarm. Works for me.

This. It'll mess with your sleep cycles too so an app won't work anyway.

This works for me.

Seriously, I have the worst insomnia and have tried everything to remedy it. If I drink myself to sleep, I'll maybe get 5-6 hours of sleep and wake up refreshed and I'll be able to get shite done during the day.

I've been doing an hour of cardio everyday. That helps more than anything.
I don't need as much sleep either. 6 hours is plenty.

Yeah it's a big difference even if you only do 30 minutes of cardio when it comes time to sleep

I just use 7 different alarms. I wake up on the 5th or 6th. If I do any exercise past 6:00 in the evening, I'll have more trouble going to sleep. As it is, I only get about 4 or 5 hours a night. I have the hardest time falling asleep. It really sucks.

How would an app know what sleep cycle you are in? It is arbitrary duration settings?

Unless it attaches to you it wouldn't. OP was experiencing the placebo effect, that's it.

This is what I was thinking. Unless the latest iPhone comes with a CT scan feature, it seems like it's just working off a timer.

Math Alarm is the best alarm ever.

You have to solve math problems to snooze or turn it off and you can set the difficulty of problems.

It's supposed to use your body's movements with the gyroscope to estimate which stage of the sleep cycle you're in. I like to use OP's app. Kind of cool to see the charts afterwards.

The app doesn't know what cycle you're in. It is designed from knowledge of typical sleep patterns in that you go in and out of deep sleep and your level of consciousness is greater the further you are from deep sleep. You can adjust the length of the alarm.

My current profile is set to 5 min Fade-in and 10 min of alarm at 70% volume. It also turns on the display at the alarm time after fade in to 50% brightness
