Does anyone buy things because some athlete endorses them?

I see the Beats by Dre - Richard Sherman ad on TD, so I wonder: Does anyone here buy non-athletic related items because the seller uses an athlete on their ad? I'm thinking "what special knowledge does Richard Sherman have about headphones?"
I know celebrity endorsements work, but I've always wondered about who exactly falls for this marketing ploy?

I buy everything Peyton Manning peddles for. I own multiple buicks, switched insurance to Nationwide, switched to Visa, and exclusively order from the much farther away Papa John's.

Same people who listen to bubblegum pop, watch Ellen or Oprah, and post chain letters on Facebook. Also, kids....urban or otherwise.

I think it would have some subconscious influence. If I see Drew Brees endorsing something that I'm on the fence about, I will probably be at least slightly more likely to buy it.

On the contrary, gives me a reason not to buy "said" item. I don't give in to the bandwagon approach

Harsh..... The SOB is still alive and kicking after 20+ years with HIV. However, feel sorry for him for having a gay son.

I used to drink Bud because of Dale Jr. Well, not really, I just drank more on sundays during the race.

I wont go out and buy it just because I seen an athlete wearing it. But it will put the specific product into my mind and make me atleast consider it.

No, and I don't vote a certain way just because a celebrity endorses a candidate either.
But if the person who's pitching the product is someone I like watching, then I might not turn the channel or mute the ad.

I've never convinced to buy anything because of a commercial.
