Sure they could but why risk their lives when you can achieve the desired results with the MOAB.

So basically we dropped a bomb on tunnels the CIA created.

Those tunnels the U.S is bombing in Afghanistan? They were built by the CIA

I am all about using large bombs, but this use seems a bit over the top for the results achieved. Are you telling me this was the largest congregation of fighters and weapons in the region? it surely doesnt seem so.

very likely could be something new, we bombarded tora bora in search for UBL, so many of the original complexes are probably not the same

Are you willing to lose a half dozen SF soldiers and an equal amount or more of Afghan soldiers?

I dont think we would lose anywhere near 6 solders, if any, facing off against 30 dumbass militants. let's be a little realistic with the scenarios here...

Trying to dislodge ~40 jihadists from a well-entrenched position would have cost us at least a half-dozen soldiers. We already lost one trying to get in this complex. You also clearly don't understand how hard it is to root out an enemy from a place like this.

I suspect you've never been anywhere near this sort of situation by calling them "dumbass militants". They're a lot sharper than 99% of Americans think they are.

Maybe I missed the link telling us how many fighters were killed...all I've seen was a thread on Poli Board saying it was around 100 fighters.

Regardless of number of killed, I think the value is in the destruction/denial of use for cave complex.

Unfortunately my own personal experience tells me that not one single American life is worth risking if a viable alternative means of accomplishing your mission is available. we learned the hard way it's better to simply bulldoze a house as opposed to losing a Marine trying to clear it.

How long have we been fighting these "dumbass militants"? I think they're pretty smart

I say it's time we drop more MOAB's and GTFO

I missed that response while typing my last reply to you...wow. I don't fault you for having never seen or been in combat but this comment is wildly ignorant.

Dug in defenders have a huge advantage, even against the most highly trained.

If this was designed to blow the crap out of tunnels, would it be cheaper just to drop a few of these a year on our southern border (as opposed to building a wall)?
