yeah, that's what I did. Got tired of wireless routers burning up and decided to try out the all in one before making the purchase.

I just moved in to a new house and the computer is too far away from where my XBox is located so I'm having cables run throughout, but I want wifi covering the home as well.

I'm totally ignorant when it comes to all of this stuff. I'm having Cox Internet hooked up at my house this weekend. I don't have a desktop in the house. All of my devices are wireless. (Laptop, tablets, etc.)

Is it better for me to get an all-in-one or a modem with separate router?

I'm a little less ignorant, but still very ignorant, (as evidenced by my posts in this thread), but I figured if I'm going to have someone run a wire through the attic to my Xbox, may as well have them do all the rooms at the same time.

I am running two Xbox 360's,one PS3,three cellphones, two Android Tablets and one Laptop.

I don't have any issues at all whether in the house out out in the backyard with connections using the SBG6580 on Cox

Ohh and a Panasonic smart tv that I use to stream movies from my phone to the tv.

most routers can be used to "jump" off each other. Basically using them in series to extend wifi.

I'm sure mine does, and that's what I'm hoping for, if not, that mofo has a rage enough radius to cover the entire home (so I'm told).

That mofo being my ubiquiti router.

Ok, yeah. I'm not running nearly that many devices and my house isn't "OT big". Just want something that can give me a good range. I like the idea of the all-in-ones but i've had no experience with them.

just posted that to let you know the amount of devices I have that work on that wifi modem.
They're not always connected at once but sometimes I'll have like 5 of them connected at once and haven't had any issues.

Well I'm visiting Chattanooga for few days and ran a speedtest at my place. So far, so good:

$57.99 / month for 100Mbps

Question

Right now I have an old (3-5 year old) modem connected to a new router. When i first setup the internet in my new house, the signal wasn't strong enough to reach my bedroom. I had several walls and a brick wall interfering with the signal. To combat this, i moved my modem and router to a central bedroom, and i had to buy an extender and put it in the living room. I was getting decent signal. Well my sister-in law and her husband are staying with us until their house gets built. I've noticed that my internet signal has deteriorated, probably because of more devices using the signal. Right now we have my phone, my xbox, my wife's phone, her ipad, my sister in laws phone, my brother in laws phone, and his ipad.

So they are all sucking signal thus reducing signal for my internet. I recently did a test and my download speed was 25 mbps. I'm sure it is slower now.

Would buying a DOCSIS 3.0 modem increase my signal strength, or am I limited by the Cox service? Not sure what package i have for internet, but it costs me about $60/month.

This has nothing to do with your signal strength..What router are you using ?

If you want good wifi signal throughout the house you can set up a second router to 'extend' your wifi signal to areas of the home with bad signal. Look into Apple's AirPort Extreme Base Station and Airport Express routers. I have this in my home, and it took me 5 mins to set up. Although, I bet you can do it with other routers too. But I already had an Extreme, so I just ended up getting the cheaper Express to go with it.

Your signal strength is dropping or your speed is dropping?

A docsis 3.0 would be for speed only. It doesn't put out any signal it just connects to your router which puts out the signal.

But if you're getting poor speeds and still have 3+ bars of signal strength, get a docsis 3.0 modem.

Is this set up correctly ? Maybe everyone is just sucking off the same frequency and you should split them up

Everyone is hooking up to the same name, when you search for the wi-fi connection.
