Chattanooga has their crap together. I'm jealous. I refuse to do business with Comcast so my only other option is DSL.

I live in the 20th largest city in the US and damn New Iberia has better and more ISP options than I have.

Of course 90% of the population here still bangs on drums to send one another messages.

Even better...I'm in IT and have a lot of networking and telecom resources. I'll actually be able to utilize this speed and get what I'm paying for. Doing a 1 Gig Asus router for now and on the lookout for a 1 Gig switch to run out of one of the router ports. Probably will upgrade to Cisco router after a while.

i can't believe the rest of the globe is passing the US by because they treat internet services like a utility.

for some reason i live in 100 yard area AT&T can't service with their crappy u-verse fiber.

my damn cell phone gets 20mbps, but the best AT&T can do at my house is 6mbps. (which still allows us to do what we need for the most part)

I'm a libertarian and even I think that internet should be made a utility. The telecoms have thoroughly demonstrated that customer best interest and innovation is not what they consider high priorities.

It's only going to worsen. Just wait a few more years as cable television continues its inexorable decline.

The ISPs will eventually turn the internet into "TV 2.0".

Want access to Foxnews.com, CNN.com, and Weather.com? That's an extra $10 a month. If you want access to ESPN.com, Foxsports.com, and SI.com, that's another $10 a month. Access to Netflix, Amazon, and Hulu will require a "premium" subscription of an additional $20 per month.

Meanwhile, increases in bandwidth will continue to occur at glacial rates.

Just ran this. The speeds are a little slower than usual but I like the ping.

My modem is a 2.0 and it's been cutting out a lot lately, especially on the phones. The wifi signal will disappear and I'll realize I've been using data a bunch.
Will getting a 3.0 modem fix this or is that a router issue?

Casty, I just got a Cisco DPC3825 DOCSIS 3.0 from Cox, but it doesn't reach to the ends of my house. I also have a Ubiquiti AirRouter that I bought a few months back when my other router crapped out.

I'm having my house wired for cat5 in the next few days, and I obviously don't know jack shite about this stuff, but can I use both of these components to spread my network throughout my house?

I'm at gmail, if you'd like to give me a pointer or two. Thanks.

I bought the DOCSIS 3.0 off Amazon too. Love the all in one modem/router.

I'm paying Cox for 18Mbps and getting this through wifi...

no complaints.
