I had to do that once, back in my first management position. Not for anything I did, but for a prank a couple of my employees pulled on another employee.

Wasn't much fun.

yes, just hit my 8 year mark last month. I've had no issues with it so far, the pay and benefits are just too good to complain.

I've been with Caterpillar for over 20 years now. They're pretty big I'd suppose.

I work for Nucor. I thought I'd be tough and move up, but after that 1st step, I said screw it and stepped down.

Yep. My day job is for one subsidiary and my part-time job is for another subsidiary of the U.S. government.

Your best bet is to just pay attention and notice the vibe of the company at first. Don't jump in and try to bring lots of attention to yourself until you know what the office dynamics are, because if you don't fit into the scheme of things, things will not go well. You have to play it cool and quiet until you are sure about what is expected of you, and what behavior will work well to help you to fit into the already set group that has been successful there. The older employees will be watching you closely in the beginning, waiting to judge and decide, but don't give them much to judge until you have your feet planted firmly on the ground.

Use George Costanza's strategy. Walk fast and look worried, people will think you are a hard worker.

Depending upon how high up u are, u may be surprised how much the corporation is about money, money, money. And I dont disagree, it has to be about money, it just gets ridiculous sometimes, especially when you work in hospitals. But then you go to a ex-state hospital and its all about how much can we waste.
