Walking the order out to your car isn't a service?

Outback is the only place I know that does this. When I lived in BR I used to tip when they did this at outback.

Chilis doesn't. Applebees doesn't. You have to go inside and pick up at Kirin too in Hammond. Who else actually brings it to your car?

Depends. I like seeing the look on their face when they see me writing something and get all excited, only to see that I was just writing the total.

Here in my area of Houston, both Applebee's and Chili's will bring it out to your car.

I figure they did SOME work to box it all up and bring it out to me. But really they don't spend more than 5-10 minutes on me. 10% is about the max I tip for that.

A regular waiter has to spend about an hour bringing food and filling drinks, etc. So they earn the extra % points.

well, if they bring the food to me in my car, I guess I owe something. However, in that instance, I'll gladly walk inside, pick up the food myself, and leave a $0 tip. No fricks Given.

At the same time though, the kitchen is right by the side door and the parking spaces are right outside the door. You are probably closer sitting in your car to the kitchen than many people are inside the restaurant.

It's not like they are crossing the Atlantic to bring your food out.

On the other hand, they have to box all of that food up which is work they don't have to do if you ate inside.

So I don't know... maybe just a $5 tip or something.
