No. I have my own student loans to pay.
Then you need to make you coffee at home; it's cheaper.

I dont get the obsession with Starbucks.....I dont even think their coffee is that good let alone worth the $5. Ill take my free coffee at work or brew community at home any day over going and spending $3-$6 on a cup from a coffee shop....hell Id rather pay the $1 to get it from a gas station

Starbucks doesn't take advantage of the lower tip minimum wage. They pay above the standard federal minimum wage. In other words, they do not take the position that their employees are tipped employees (like most restaurants will do with servers and therefore pay them lower than the standard minimum wage with the expectation that the difference will be made up for in tips). I'm sure they "rely" on tips to make a decent hourly rate, but not in the same way that servers do who are paid less than the federal minimum wage directly by their employer.

I usually tip $1 especially if I get something other than just a black coffee.
Sometimes when I just get black coffee and I pay cash I don't leave a dollar.
I've got some friends that worked at coffee shops while in college, they said that's pretty standard.

A tall coffee at Starbuck's is $1.85. Not really out of line with drinks at most restaurants.

My coffee order is generally always simple and I typically tip. Generally a dollar. I see it as a way of improving my experience. I visit the same place and I visit frequently enough to where I see the tip as an investment on my future visits. The staff there knows my order and my interests. I get tips on local stuff and occasionally a free pastry or coffee.
Not sure about all coffee shops but the one in Savannah I go to is partly owned by a friend of mine. They make above minimum wage which is nice because I think that helps weed out the shitheads that tend to plague coffee shops

Forerunner, no tip jar.
A soda jerk (or soda jerker) is a person — typically a youth — who operates the soda fountain in a drugstore, often for the purpose of preparing and serving flavored soda water or an ice cream soda

Nope, get to the office and make my own. One bag is $6 lasts a week plus I don't look like a millennial going to a ghey coffee shop.

Worrying so much about what you look like to other people is very millennial of you.

When I was still in Baton Rouge I would go to Garden District Coffee once twice a week at 6:30am. I would generally tip if I was paying cash
starbucks or anywhere else, I rarely tip

If a business doesn't give me a chance to tip on my card, I don't. If they do, I do. Doesn't really matter if it is coffee, quick service food, full service food, etc.
Posted on 3/4/16 at 9:46 am to mylsuhat
The question you need to ask yourself is if there was no "tip" line on your receipt, or no tip jar on the counter, would you still tip? Most people would say no. Just because they ask for a tip, doesn't mean you should give one. I only tip if it's reasonable to assume that the person serving me is working for tips.
