Do you think Federal agencies like the FDA have your best interests at heart?

What does it say when the United States Food and Drug Administration will approve and thus sanction Aspartame for general public consumption, resulting in Aspartame Poisoning and yet not allow for approval of medicinal marijuana for cancer patients? What kind of people are we really dealing with here? You can put frickin ammonia in hamburger meat and serve it to millions, but don't you dare attempt to actually make cheeses and cured meats like Europeans have done for centuries. This is one weird arse country.

I don't think many Americans believe the Federal Government in any capacity has your best interests at heart.
I for one, don't belive that either Party has the American interests at heart, nor have they had the American interest at heart for many year. Both parties are only interested in what is best for the Party, not the country

i read a history once on the approval of aspartame by the FDA and while i dont remember the specific details, i do remember that it was shady as frick
basically anyone that was against was removed or replaced
any congressmen against eventually supported it and then you find out that they received tons of money from companies with interests in aspartame

They are absolutely corruptible by special interest money and politics. It's a joke that some people think the government has their best interests in mind.

Some of the federal agencies are effective. Do you know what was being sold as "medicine" before the FDA was created? Agriculture Dept has also helped this country a lot.

The FDA as an entity doesn't have any interest at all. Federal Agencies are made up of people, and some of those people have intentions I consider good and some have bad intentions.
Overall I think most of the agencies have done more good than harm, but there is a ton of room for improvement.

No, but I don't believe the companies that they regulate do either.
At the very least, the specter of having the agency there enforces some bare minimum of safety (in most cases) for companies that otherwise would do God knows what.
OSHA is a real pain in the arse - but without it, we'd have kids working in dangerous areas and employees dying by the thousands.... especially with this country's focus on quarterly results above all else. We'd be Qatar or China without them.

gotta watch out for that aspartame. shite will get you if you drink a few hundred cokes a week. apple seeds will also poison you in large doses. we should ban apples as well.

I don't think the FDA is out to get us, but I do feel like they're closer to being indifferent than to actually caring about food/drug safety.
