No gonna happen given real estate prices in SF and silicon valley. That place is already taking off.

Grand Isle. I give it 15 years max.

but it has to be said that the levee failures are what did in New Orleans after Katrina. The city withstood the actual hurricane (albeit a cat 3 hurricane; indirect hit) fairly well.
what a dumb post. you're stupid.

Oakland is moving in the complete opposite direction of "total collapse"

It's not enough to just claim someone is wrong or stupid. Please give something to back up your claim. Why is his post dumb and he stupid?

Yeah, I would count Detroit, but only if it gets much worse. In other words, if the downtown population goes down another 50 percent and the nice suburbs even begin to see people leaving
I don't think Detroit will see it's end in our lifetime. However before the end of my lifetime (within the next 30 years) the nice suburbs will start to resemble Detroit.

Why does Miami always get a pass and NEVER mentioned when it comes to cat 5 hurricane threats?
They are barely above sea of level with NO LEVEE PROTECTION.
Can you imagine if category 5 Hurricane Andrew would have made landfall 20 miles further north?
When you're above sea level, the water comes in and then it goes out a day later once the storm moves on (see Coastal Mississippi). It's devestating, but not enough to cause a population to completely abandon an area. Much of New Orleans is below sea level (in some places as much as 20ft), so if the levees fail, the water floods the city and never leaves unless the levees are somehow repaired and the water pumped out again. That is catastrophic. It makes it a Herculean effort just to drain the city so that people can even come back and decide if they want to rebuild or not. If the powers at be see that the effort to drain and repair the city is too much, it could simply be abandoned. It would actually become a lost city and devolve into some kind of brackish marsh if the government never let people back in. Otherwise, it could possibly become an American Venice as a pure tourism destination.

without a doubt. Take a look at birth rates between classes. This ship is sinking faster than you think.

I said nobody cares what you think. That's not the same as asking for you to back up a claim as to why he was wrong. That's a request for facts, not opinion. Perhaps if you spent more time actually reading what people post and less trying to be a smart arse you'd not make a fool out of yourself.

This was an enjoyable thread for a guy sitting home all day with a sick wife in bed on baby duty because the sitter that's already been paid for the week is "On Spring Break" until it turned into a pissing contest, fwiw.

I just wanted to know why he thought that guy's post about Katrina was stupid.
