When I was single I hated being alone.

Now 5 years into a relationship, I treasure it.

Yes.

Now...forever? I don't know if I would like that.

Seems like the only time we ever fight is because she got her feelings hurt I didn't invite her come along with me to AutoZone to pick up windshield wipers.

"Where are you going?"

"Get a car wash and get some gas"

"I wanna go!"

"What? Why?"

"Do you not want me to go with you?"

"Oh goddamnit, just get in the car"

I generally like alone time. I've traveled alone & gone to movies alone. I go to lunch alone most days, to get away from people & recharge.

Going to a bar alone would make me anxious. People tend to approach women sitting alone at bars, and I hate small talk. Plus, it just seems...I don't know. A little desperate or something. I'd rather drink at home alone if I want to drink & friends aren't available.

I enjoy being alone, unless sex is involved.

Yeah, I would feel differently about this as a woman.

As a hairy man with a beard and resting bitch face, no one approaches me at the bar for small talk

Everybody is wired differently. I personally enjoy alone time more than the average person.

Most small talk is terrible. I can't stand it.

i like being alone but not all the time. Being alone for multiple nights when I travel gets old, but a night is awesome. I also love the wife's girls night out, she does one or two of those a week and I just sit home and read.

I'm in a similar boat without the self loathing you've got going on. No offense. That's just part of getting older my dude. As far as being disappointed with the outcome of attempts at being social--stop expecting so much to come from it. Don't go out for a beer expecting to meet your new best friend or the love of your life and then be dissapointed when that doesn't happen. Take it for what it is. You're damn sure not going to meet either of those people staying at home

yeah see i totally understand that

hell i'm lonely as frick right now and it's crushing me, but i don't really want an oppressive wife/gf or anything

that's one reason why LDRs (within 5-ish hours) always worked with me pretty well. gave me that sense of care/comfort, desire, etc as well as giving me enough space not to push somebody away

I'm going to modify your conversation with something that happened YESTERDAY & yes it's true!!!

"Where are you going?"

"Get my truck serviced at the dealer (got 2 yrs free service with truck)"

"I wanna go!"

"Why?"

"Do you not want me to go with you?"

2 hours later

"Thanks for taking me honey I love my new car"
