ive never felt self-conscious in the least going to a bar, restaurant, coffee shop or movie by myself.

i love the freedom of being by myself and thats when i can truly relax the most.

i don't mind movies or even the occasional lunch/dinner solo

going to bars solo is a bad recipe for me

like places where you're supposed to interact can make me feel like shite if i'm not doing that

What? This is my jam.... I'm in my element when left alone and don't have to entertain anyone else while out. I will literally meet 20-30 people in a night out alone and have a blast doing it.

we are opposites in this regard

if i go out alone the odds of me meeting/talking to somebody new is probably less than 5%

i cannot STAND to be around my co-workers when i travel.

i enjoy my solitude on the planes and when we get to the hotel i typically set off on my own for dinner and exploring the area i'm in.

they all want to 'huddle up' and do everything together and i'm not wired that way.

Ditto.

Except for a couple of exceptions.

As for the OP, I love being alone for a couple hours a day to shut off the engines. I'm very engaging with others when they're around and it gets exhausting being so extroverted.

Thankfully, my wife goes to bed a couple hours before me and I enjoy my couch time with my scotch and HBO.

depends on the bar. if i'm bellying up to the bar for a cerveza and some wings and to watch some sports, its no problem.

i'm not talking some type of 'scene meet greet' type bar where everyone is there to socialize.

So you're pretty introverted. I like being alone sometimes but most of the time I want to be around other people.

Naturally I am, but I can swing to the opposite end of the spectrum. Most people who know me think I'm very extroverted. They probably wonder why they don't see me very often, though.

Turning it "on" for extended periods of time is exhausting.

I'm safely in the "introverted" category. Most of my favorite hobbies I can do on my own. Random people are just annoying to be around and I would much rather be alone.

There are a select few people in this world that I wish I could hang around more but cannot because of different reasons. Every so often I'm motivated enough to try to find more of these people that I get along with so well but it almost always ends up not working. The type of people I like just end up finding me and not when I'm trying to force friendships.

I do admire an extravert's ability to make friends just about everywhere they go.

I like being alone. I wouldn't trade it for anything on earth.

I enjoy being alone more frequently than being around company, but I can only go so long before I crave social activity.

I'm much more introverted, but I also enjoy socializing out with friends and whatnot.

Living by myself was far and away better than living with roommates or now with my gf (shhhh don't tell her that).

i just never have seen bars in that sort of social sense for some reason

Occasionally, but only at home or driving around town.

I enjoy having someone with me when I travel. Experiences are better when shared.

MAybe I don't "have" to entertain anyone, but my personality always seems to errr on being the life of the party. Couple of my friends say going out with me is like finding Nemo. One minute i'm by the bar kicking it with some random group of people and the next i'm outside with another group of people while they catch a smoke.... But yeah I probably go out and have a drink more often alone than I do with a group of people or with someone.

many OTers can co-sign everything im saying
