One thing to do is creep by their recycle bins on trash day, alot of them will have a beer box or two, but some will have hidden beer boxes crushed down into the bottom, trying to hide their shame. That's who you want to befriend.

I have to run, but i can give you tips later on how to befriend those people later.

I know the guy to my right pretty well. The old lady to my left I know because her fence fell down and I built a new one for her.

The guy across the street is nice, but his wife is a bitch. I'm pretty sure she cheats on him. There's a pickup truck in front their house when she's home and he's away at work.

Yes. My backyard neighbor is from Puerto Rico. Him and his friends were playing Dominos one evening when I befriended them with a platter of fried fish and potato’s. It’s been two years and he brings a plate of hot food at least eight times a week to my door. Great neighbors

They keep trying to say hello, got invited to 2 Thanksgivings and was gifted a canoe.

They seem genuine, but I'm always iffy

I've had conversations with some neighbors a couple of houses down and the neighbors that live behind me. We moved in two years ago, and have had a few houses around us sell. Seems like the neighborhood is transitioning to a younger crowd, so I'm sure once my wife and I have kids we'll meet more people. I'm a pretty private person so I'm not going out of my way to be best friends with my neighbors.

Being neighborly doesn’t mean new best friends and plans every weekend. It’s the right thing to do.

But your neighbors should introduce themselves. Not you to them.

Yes. The Imam lives across the street, I have an empty lot on one side and brother Mohamed lives on the side of me.

As-salamu alakum.

Some of the neighbors on our street organized a "Wine Wednesday" It is kind of random, but usually once a month or so, rotating host. Just a couple of hours, but nice to meet and know each other. So we all know those of us that want to socialize and those that don't, or just too busy.

Yes I do. Have really great neighbors and neighborhood. Most are young professionals or retirees. Most are introverts or extraverts. Not much in between. Had a real prick across the street a few months ago. Thank goodness he moved.

My husband has lived in our house for 13 years. He knows the neighbors well, but doesn’t hang out with them (most are retirees). I’ve lived in the house for a few years, but don’t know them very well. I’m friendly & wave, but I’m kind of shy & don’t go out of my way to make conversation.

No, California is weird. Back home in New Orleans I always knew all my neighbors. My last neighbors on both sides were both widowed black ladies the fed me dinner several times a week.

Just the black ones. They introduced themselves.

My white neighbors avoid eye contact.

I live on a dead-end parish road several miles away from the nearest incorporated city. Only 8 homes on our road and we all know each other. The best thing about our situation is that we live near enough to interact but are separated enough to ignore one another if we so choose. My nearest neighbors are about 500 feet away.

I've always found this interesting. I've lived in all types of housing and generally speaking I've found that the closer people live to each other, the less friendly they are with their neighbors. I'm sure there are jokes to be made about this but it's not like they are even friendly from the start (like have a reason to not want to hang out).

I know everyone on the street except one family that moved in a month ago. Have not run into them yet. I feel bad about it, so I may bring them some homemade pepper jelly before Christmas to introduce myself.

Also, get a dog. You will meet everyone during dog walks.

Know a bunch of them and have get togethers with them. Enjoy having good neighbors and we all look out for each other.

Yeah - looking for a place to move further out and build a home to retire in.

Probably has to do with everyone being so temporary. Lots of people moving in and out. Also, in the scenario if you have thin walls and can hear them you're probably thinking 'frick those people'.
