I rarely side with protestors against pipelines in situations like these, but this is unconcionable. Knowingly and purposefully desecrating grave sites is damn near the lowest of the low. I don't see why they couldn't have moved the pipeline slightly to avoid them. This is just callous, idiotic, and unnecessary.

It sounds like the pipeline is 1-2 miles away from the grave sites.

It would very likely break conditions of the Federal permit. So it will either be suspended because it is happening, or not, because it isn't happening.

They didn't know there was any sensitive sites until months after the permitting process, which likely took years to complete. And by law, the Tribes are a part of any federal action with implications of impact, miles and miles outside of their actual reservation.

Let's just see if there is merit before we decide on that. I would completely agree, if a company is desecrating any human grave site.

No, the pipeline is 1-2 miles from the tribal land, but runs straight through a recently discovered ancient burial ground. If it turns out that it's a real archaeological site and not just a cynical ploy to delay and obfuscate construction, then seriously, f$&k that pipeline company.

idk man. i'm not a native american, but i am 1/8th. i'm a member of the choctaw nation that's based in oklahoma.

my distant cousins (great grandmother was a choctaw) live a pretty good life in central mississippi last time i checked. if native americans are being held down, they're doing it to themselves.

every minority group complains about the gov't and keeps taking the money while doing nothing to improve their own station in life.

it's bullshite what happened between our ancestors, but native americans have no excuses for being "slaves"(nor anyone else in this country).

the ones that are downtrodden are lazy and decided to try and make it on gov't allowance.

let me tell you a secret. sovereign nation-states don't care much for the majority race either, i.e. white people don't give a shite about white people any more than black leaders in liberia care about black people, etc.

it's all a big fricking shell game, so stop being a sucker.

Ah gotcha.

So have the Native Americans done their due diligence from a legal standpoint upon finding this recent discovery?

If so, yea obviously.

I'll say the video I saw showed Native Americans basically attacking regular dudes who were just there to work, creating a very dangerous situation. I did see Security folks there standing with dogs, and I also saw Native Americans trying to hit the dogs with sticks.

Maybe not on the specific instance you mentioned, but they have been the aggressor and have some responsibility for that from the few things I've seen.

Are you silly enough to believe that the folks living there when whitey showed up were the first people ever on the land?

These tribes took what they wanted from others and in turn had it taken from them by others.

That is the way of the world and carting around a chip on your shoulder about it just makes your burden heavier and no one else really gives a shite.

Yes, they filed with the proper authorities for an injunction as well as documented the site for excavation by professional archaeologists. This sort of thing is very common in areas with lots of archeological sites.

you don't think that the Sioux should be given a little latitude here given the rough history between them and non-natives?

No, I don't. I don' thtink we should desecrate graves though. We should determine whether actual graves will be impacted and avoid them.

So does everyone who ever lost their land to a superior force.

You can only call yours what you can defend.

You think yours are the only people to ever lose land?

Here's Europe over the course of recorded history
Guess what, it changes, A Lot

Every tribe has won and lost land, had the graves of their ancestors desecrated.

It's like this thoughout history, across the globe.

Guess what. If you want your land, the only way to take it is by force.

I take it they did not get the injunction?

I'm ok with a peaceful protest, but from what I've seen, they were anything but.

I'm saying their story is fishy as all get out and they are being used as pawns.
99% of the "protests" we see have ulterior motives, like extortion or in this case, Warren Buffett wanting oil to keep being transported via his trains rather than someone else's pipelines.
