Or is that too taboo?

There are ways to manipulate processes on Earth to cause harm to people and irreversible change to cities and landscapes.

Or is there?

Some processes are way too big with way too many buffers in place to counteract quick changes.

Small changes are really all you can do with today's technology...but if you went to Bond-like villain money and research you could do some serious damage.

Let's talk about it.

For one...if you raised sea level by 1 meter, you'd do more damage than all the world wars combined. How do you do that?

Melt portions of Greenland or Antarctica.

Just how would this be accomplished? Giant magnifying glass or some cool laser beams?

All these ideas are decades away from being probable.

Some Canadian made a tornado machine.

That, coupled with Ol' Bushie's hurricane machine could wreak some havoc.

I've been dispensing r-12 freon into the atmosphere for years trying to kill off the Eskimos

That's the trick, right?

You'd have to increase the surface area of the ice that is already in place.

The way to do that is to break it into lots of little pieces, and get those pieces to the ocean.

I am thinking a series of horizontal drills that alcohol is pumped through once drilled.

Or a series of nukes that are set in the ice and detonated and those pieces land in the sea and eventually melt. You have to get land ice to the sea and that ice has to melt.

Fire melts ice. Don't rule out the worlds biggest fire.

Small ideas are triggering a volcanic eruption where there is a large populous.

You can trigger another Vesuvius eruption and that will cause major casualties, just like Pompeii all those years ago.

The trick is to uneven pressure balance on the flank of the volcano to make sure it fails facing towards the city. How to do that? No idea? Drill a shallow nuke on that flank and detonate it?

That would do it. It is amazing what alcohol does to ice. A very high content like isopropyl would melt ice almost on contact. Plus, you could have a really cool ice pick machine with blades and alcohol combined.

There was a Clive Cussler book that went into detail about destroying the Old River Control Structure near Simsport, LA during high water. The Mississippi river would change course leaving a trickle in New Orleans as it took the path of the Atchafalaya river. That sounds cool.

I would bet fire in the Antarctic won't melt ice, but sublimate it. Just turns it into gas.

What would be better is if you could change the color of the ice to a dark color and have the sunlight actually absorb into the ice, thereby melting it.

How would you do that? Coat ice with dark sand? For many many many miles squared? That's too much.

Good point. I remember this.

That wouldn't really kill people but cost businesses millions.

Well the deal is, the Mississippi, or branches of it area already in the Atchafalaya and are building out a delta just like the Mississippi.

So it's not like a lot will change at the coast, in either location. It's just the trade routes will.
