No...which is why I'm alive to answer this question.

20 or thirty years back we lived in Ft. Worth. There was a guy I would see from time to time walking with a shirt and tie, sometimes in a sport coat, usually with a black legal pad folder or whatever. One day he was on the entrance ramp to 183 with his hand out and I stopped to pick him up. I asked him where he needed to go and about 600 yards down the road he starts talking about 100 mph.

"I just travel up and down these highways of life between Ft.Worth and Dallas telling people about Jesus because it is the job he has given me to do would you happen to have a dollar for a hamburger because I haven't had anything to eat today and a hamburger would be reallynicebecauseIhaven'thadanythingtoeatbecauseIworkthesehighwaysalldaylongeverydayandIridewithfolksandtellthemaboutJesus"

deep breath

Andherewearetodayandyouseewe'retalkingaboutJesuswhichiswhatIdoYouneversaidifyouhadadollarandIsurewoouldlikeahamburgerthismorning.

We were coming up to the next exit and I stopped and told him it was my exit. I gave him a dollar, left him on the side of the road and drove up the exit ramp, down the entrance ramp and back onto the highway. As I entered, he was standing there with his hand out thumbing for a ride and evidently patiently waiting for someone to pick him up so he could tell them about Jesus and maybe get some change for some fries.

I'd see him every so often after that, but I never stopped.

Dude why would you do something like that with your wife in the car?

That is exactly where the crazy fricked up stories come from

Yep, if anyone ever comes up to you in a hurry like it's an emergency (and you don't see an emergency) get in your car and drive off - that's how junkies operate. Element of surprise.

Damn dude. That's an uncomfortable situation to put yourself into. There are a few bad things that could come from that.

That's exactly my train of thought the second she told me she needed a ride to plank road.

If you are giving someone a ride it should only be as far as you are going...if they are going further it's their problem

Ha, she was already in my truck. I couldn't tell a 13 year old girl to kick rocks and head north lol.

I pick up hitchhikers on a weekly basis. No regrets.

I did once, about 5 weeks ago, he claimed his car ran out of gas and his credit card was at his hotel, I don't know why I believed him, but I gave him a ride back to his hotel 10 miles away. I was worried the whole trip and I was ready to throw him out of the car if needed.

I survived!

I gave an elderly lady, carrying 2 bags of groceries, a ride. My son was in the car and when we got home he was freaked. He thought she could have been a serial killer, lol. Other than that, no. Probably won't do that again.

As a nation we've become so lazy that we view walking as suffering.

I've never picked up a hitchhiker and we don't even have them that I've ever seen. We have buses.

Yup. Many times.

Know what it's like to be without your own transpo and walk everywhere. If I'm not rushing somewhere and have the gas, I'll give folks a lift in the #WhiteWhale.
