There was the turn of the century, then the whole Mayan calendar thing.. It seems like there was another big day it was suppose to happen since I have been alive..
We were supposed to have a rapture a few years ago but (to my knowledge) that never happened.

People have been thinking the end of the worlds is right around the corner as long as people have had the ability form cognitive thought.
This is dead on. I'm sure during the Dark Ages in Europe, plagues, raping and pillaging, people were convinced the end was near. Or during either of the world wars. The list goes on and on. Here in the US we are so sheltered we think every time we read something bad in the news, the world is coming to an end. Go to countries that have historically been through harder times and they tend to roll with the punches.

There are some things evangelicals simply cannot help themselves over - satanic panic being one....
...the apocalypse being the other. Growing up surrounded by them in South La. I can't tell you how many times they worked themselves into a lather at the prospect of the end of the world. In the late 80's-early 90's they had exact dates and everything 3-4 times as I recall.
Idiots

Depends on what you mean by "End". The world won't end until God burns all of it as he has said he will. That is more than 1007 years away.
Yep. The downvotes are people who don't believe and/or people who don't read the Bible.

People who believe the Bible don't think the world is fixing to end. We do think that events are lining up for the war of Armagedon. The people are what the Bible says they will be like and the countries names as major players are right where they are so suppose to be as for as alliances. The world is headed in the wrong direction and will soon be in the greatest and ugliest war in history. Billions will die.

You ever read any ancient history? Humans were fricking savages back in the day. We're angels now compared to those guys.

Some scientists theorize that AI could be the end of Earth and the entire solar system before 2200. The Milky Way Galaxy within 50,000 years and the universe in 50,000,000,000 years.
All it would take is bad code, such as, "Siri, build a better mousetrap." It would start slowly, likely building an atom assembler, which uses carbon. As it runs out of available carbon, it finds more and more, moving faster and faster. It logically determines that there isn't enough carbon on Earth, so it finds a way to get to the planets and from there spread across the solar system, cosuming everything, and from there, spreads across the cosmos.
All because someone stupidly didn't include in the code to STOP after the first five or six mousetrap iterations.

Some have concerns about Sept 23

quote:
"The reason September 23 is so important to Mr Ray is because the sun will appear in the constellation Virgo – Latin for ‘virgin’, IE the Virgin Mary. Following the solar eclipse last month, this is a sign the rapture is supposedly coming.
Does it not pique your interest that 2017 and 2024 prophetic years before an increasingly likely 2017 AD and 2024 AD Second Coming/Tribulation time-frame, respectively, happen to outline Fall 29 AD, when Jesus became the Suffering Servant and Lamb of God and when the purpose for which He first came into the world began?”
quote:
"On November 20, 2016, Jupiter (the King planet) enters into the body (womb) of the constellation Virgo (the virgin). Jupiter, due its retrograde motion, will spend the next 9 ½ months within the womb of Virgo. This length of time corresponds with gestation period of a normal late-term baby.
After 9 ½ months, Jupiter exits out of the womb of Virgo. Upon Jupiter’s exit (birth), on September 23, 2017, we see the constellation Virgo with the sun rise directly behind it (the woman clothed with the sun). At the feet of Virgo, we find the moon. And upon her head we find a crown of twelve stars, formed by the usual nine stars of the constellation Leo with the addition of the planets Mercury, Venus, and Mars."-https://www.lifesitenews.com/blogs/a-great-sign-said-to-appear-in-the-heavens-as-the-year-of-mercy-closes

One can read the bible and not believe it.
I believe in a higher power although I don't really know in what form it will be. Do you take the old testament literal? I don't. There are religious scholars out there who do not because there are stories in there that are simply not possible.
Like some dude building an ark, collecting two of every animal. He would have had to collect animals that were never discovered in that region yet.
Adam and eve.. So two people populated the whole world? They had a bunch of kids, siblings got with each other and produced kids, so then cousins got with each other to have kids...

It has everything to do with Israel. It was proclaimed that the children of Abraham, Issac, and Jacob would be great, then be overthrown, then be scattered across the globe, be persecuted and slaughtered, then all be gathered back home in Israel. All that has happened. When the third Temple in Jerusalem is constructed and Israel is close to total destruction, look out the end is close. Its all to do with Israel.

Many Christians tend to interpret nearly any set of circumstances as "end times".
Although I personally don't agree with the various interpretations of end times, there are very specific events that about 90% of prophets seeking Christians think must occur before the end...
Israel must become a state
A new temple must be built where the old one was...(various interpretations on how strict this one is)
A star called wormwood should fall and poison rivers (open ended)
Meteorites showers
A Mark of the Beast (used to buy/sell)
Antichrists...(so open ended)
Wars and Rumours of Wars
Many have pointed to astrological occurrences going on right now as specific signs...
Jupiter is transiting Virgo, and the sun will be at her head and the moon will be at her feet later this month...
Interesting to say the least...

There are a lot of fricken' people in the world. I'm sure there are some number of them that believe pretty much any thing you can come with.

Billions? With a B?
The only people that run around saying the world is going to end are Baptists. Then, they hit you up for your beer money.
