Talking about recent announcement to suspend shutting off power through Sept 9th? Don’t think that’ll clear the balance though

if you are poor and lazy you get help with housing, food, medical care, free phone, and yes can get your utilities cheaper. Not sure about entergy, but with like cox you can.

LIHEAP is a federally funded program that helps households with their home energy expenses. The LIHEAP program may provide heating/cooling bill payment assistance, crisis bill payment assistance, and/or heating/cooling equipment repair/replacement assistance. Read on for more information on the program.

Welp here you go.

lol, we are so fricked.

quote:

To be eligible for this benefit program, you must be a resident of Louisiana and you must need financial assistance with home energy costs.

A person who participates or has family members who participate in certain other benefit programs, such as SNAP, SSI, TANF, automatically meets the eligibility requirement.

You can only get assistance thru LIHEAP once every 6 months I believe.

The only bill, that is not debited out of my bank account, is Entergy. It's cheap (avg $65 month) but I'm dumb & keep forgetting to pay it.

Ever since Covid in 2020, I noticed Entergy let me go 6 months before they cut off power. It happened again 6 months to the day later. I set my phone calendar to notify me just one day short of 6 months, and paid the $400 bill and the lights stayed on.

I've ashamedly been doing it ever since. Next payment is mid-December. (Tho it would just be slightly cheaper to not accrue $3/mo. late fees if I just take the time to set my calendar to notify me each month.)

Right at the beginning of covid they changed their billpay and my card was removed so it no longer autopaid.

Like you, have gone months forgetting to pay and nothing happens. Believe they even did away with late fees for a while.

Then set your calendar just shy of 6 months

By the time you jump through all the bureaucratic hoops to get all this free stuff, I think I'd rather just get a job.

Brought to you by the brain trust of Marx and Lenin

"From each according to his ability, to each according to his needs" (German: Jeder nach seinen Fähigkeiten, jedem nach seinen Bedürfnissen) is a slogan popularised by Karl Marx in his 1875 Critique of the Gotha Programme. The principle refers to free access to and distribution of goods, capital and services.

I’m white and pay all of mine in full all the time

They are slow to do shut offs for lack of payment, but sometimes it takes even longer to get them turned back on once they’re off

I would be afraid of damaging my credit with that plan.
