Do car shops (oil changes, inspections) ever not hustle customers?

Amazing they try to get away with borderline bullying unsuspecting customers. It would be like going to a doctor or a dentist and they are searching for procedures to tack on to the bill.

5 minute oil change doesn't bother me. They show me my dirty air filter, but they don't push me on it. And it usually is dirty anyway, so I don't fault them for it.

never had an issue where I go, but then I know enough about cars to know when something is needed versus when it is "recommended"

u got to get hooked up with a good mechanic and get him to do work for you on the side - or do it yourself.

I'm the one who takes care of all that, but the rare time or two my wife has had to take her car in for that, they want to rebuild it on the spot, they never try much of that with me, she hates their arse

One time the guy showed me a dirty filter and said they needed to change it.

I looked at my truck and saw that my filter was still attached. Dishonest bastards.

I know very little about cars but they push so much crap on customers it would be impossible to tell when it is actually needed versus a simple upsell.

Wal-Mart broke the latch to my hood. They just denied it.

It is all upsell. Folllow your car's maintenance schedule.

My oil change place is classy, they have a cappuccino machine that was cleaned when George H.W. Bush was president.

No way! I would have had no idea my headlights were leaking headlight fluid if they hadn't caught it for me.

Best $600 ever spent, as far as I'm concerned.

Nope.

Do scheduled maintenance when it's scheduled. It really is that simple 99% of the time. They even put it in the owners manual in nice little charts. It's pretty idiot proof.

that's funny, the place where I normally go has one of those, and their bathroom is decorated like a den or reading room, complete with a settee, sometimes, even when I don't need an oil change I'll just get a book and go up there and sit in the bathroom and read, with a nice cappuccino

$16 + 3 hours of your life you'll never get back.

Give me the $50 / 5 min oil change all day every day over Wal mart's automotive dept.

The questions you should be asking are - did they really change the oil and filter and IS that my air filter?
