Hell, I respect any man that goes out and earns an honest living. In my 26 years of working, I've gone from green collar, to blue collar to now white collar (yes, biker trash can be white collar). In my opinion as long as a man earns what he makes, then he's alright in my book
Bottom line and /discussion.

I'd kinda like to know that myself. It's all new to me. I saw it here first. I know too many brag about the $s they make and do so to aggravate people with degrees. Otherwise ....
So many mid to late twenty year old punks on here that were pronmised millions if they got a degree... Now they can't afford to move out of mommy's house or get off of daddy's shirt tail. I worked construction during the summer in high school and during semester breaks in college. MUCH farther in my career due to the experience I gained not the degreee that I never received.....
Gotta pay your dues boys....

The retired one here told us how much better he was than the "pencil necked geeks" that worked at the plants..He then proceeded to tell us how he had worked his way into more than half his time being spent in an office

Education> ignorance
Really going out on a limb there...
Furthermore, there's a distinct difference between education, with regards to knowledge and practical intelligence. Ignorance isn't exclusive to those deemed "non-educated".

Lifted diesel pickup truck, aka "Coal Burner"- Check
Hold BBQ's 4 times a week-Check
That isn't my lifestyle and I know no one that lives like this. HOWEVER any person in any job that can afford to live like this and wants to is ok in my book.

Well the truth is that on average someone with a degree is going to out earn someone with out a degree, it's just how it is and there are numbers to back this up. This doesn't mean there aren't exceptions.

I should have specified "inside". My body was wherever I wanted it to be which was rarely at a desk. Overseeing operations under my supervision often required me to be in my work truck somewhere on the plant site. That allowed me to be wherever the hell I wanted to be on the plant site when my leadership and expertise was not needed. What else do you want to know about the job I had??

I agree to this. For the majority the "exceptions" are the people that get out there and make shite happen. People that take responsibility, take the bull by the horns, or make the call. These "exceptions" are normally the top in their industry.
The bottom line is; if you want to be sucessful, make it happen. If getting a degree is necessary, get a degree. If not, don't.

I don't think the people that work inside are the ones driving 90 on the interstate in their jacked up trucks

People who work for the Plant - Company Employee
People who work @ a Plant - contractor

I'm curious, how those numbers stack up when you take out degrees & jobs that certainly require the need for higher education. Doctors, lawyers and certain engineering fields.
I know you can't just eliminate those professions for comparison's sake, but I think it highlights the ROI that some degrees have.

Is that all degrees?? I know of degrees that equaled advanced underwater basket weaving for which there are no available jobs OR the pay was poor. Some ended up in the plant operations field.I'd like to see those numbers Remember that the topic is plant operators. Truck drivers, burger flippers, etc. don't count.
Also note OP said plant WORKERS which could mean mechanics, office workers, engineers, etc.

We ALL work inside to some extent. I'm not sure how you want to divide it up?

Come on, that's at least a 7/10 and plus you never lead with your best material!

I will allow for a 5/10. No more. So it is written, so shall it be.
