Do all Gen-Z's claim some sort of disability?

Is it some sort of badge of honor to have a disability? Every post I read from that age group on a site like Reddit or others is, 'I have ADHD, dyslexia, lactose intolerant and I'm on the spectrum". Capitalism is unfair, their school or if they work, their workplace is toxic, everyone in authority is narcissistic.

I remember when people bragged about achievements, not why they can't do shite.

I'm finished my boomer rant.

While I don't think it's limited to Gen Z, it is definitely a trend that I've noticed myself, especially with the onset of COVID...and I suspect they are related.

COVID gave everyone air cover to basically be lazy and not be thought the lesser for it.

"Sorry boss, we couldn't get that project done because of COVID."

"Sorry Mom and Dad, can't come visit you for Christmas this year with COVID and all."

"Sorry friends, with COVID still around, I just don't feel comfortable yet going to crowded places."

I feel like it has kicked-started another pandemic of laziness via victimhood. Younger people have sensed weakness from their older managers, who have been trained by COVID and their HR departments to be sensitive and sympathetic to everyone's "needs" and "comfort."

Take my wife's office for example. She is extremely frustrated with her colleagues because she actually gives a shite about putting in a solid day's work, whereas her coworkers are basically in a nonstop competition as to whose life is the toughest and most miserable. The majority of them apparently have "life crises" on a weekly basis that require taking sick days and asking to come late/leave early.

So yeah, lots of people now want to claim some sort of vague disability or unique circumstances as a cop-out when they really just want to be lazy. The most frustrating part is that it conflates those issues with people who actually have to struggle with them.

BTW, I'm in my mid-30s. This isn't some boomer saying all this.

These young folks keep talking about having the arse boogers. Hell, I think everyone gets an arse booger at some point.

The government and society they had no part in making incentivizes people to claim some kind of disability or helplessness because it confers status and material benefits. They're young and impressionable, and were born into an increasingly economically precarious world where fewer and fewer people can live a good life playing by the "old" rules. What would you expect to happen under those circumstances?

They all have panic attacks. I'm sure some people have issues with that but not 70% of young people

Gen Z went through highschool and college seeing everyone get extra time and accommodations academically for disabilities of a variety of reasons.

They're playing the game, they just don't know any other way.

The further you get into gen z it goes from having accommodations made to fill on celebrating a disability and being successful. Being average without a disability is seen as having an advantage in all aspects of life

I have noticed a lot of people on social media either wanting to be diagnosed with autism as an adult or almost willing their children into an autism diagnosis.

No one is just anti social or different or developmentally delayed anymore. They’re autistic.

i think this goes both ways. a lot of managers use young people being soft or whatever as an excuse to not confront them (because the manager has their own social issues)

You are only reading from the loud mouths that need to post about this to get some sort of pity.

I've hired three Gen Z'ers in the past year. Two are excellent. One is okay. One of the excellent ones takes a little babying, but overall it's not too bad. He does what I ask when I ask, and he does it well.

I feel like it started with the millennials. This is the realization of the Oprah attitude: "You Are A Victim." "It Is Not Your Fault."

Even when you bring it up, you'll get the "world I didn't make" BS, like any of us made the world we were born into. I was born into a cold war with the threat a nuclear annihilation hanging over my head, and yet the 80s happened because people wanted to look up instead of down. When you believe you are a victim, you will never be anything other than that. The only direction is to become a monster that creates new victims...and the cycle grows wider and wider.

Any 3 year old that has any kind of speech delay or pronunciation issues is labeled autistic and will fail the state (Texas) autism spectrum test. Then you get free pre-k, speech therapy, and other special services through your local ISD. Saves me a lot of money each year. Have 2 kids under 5 in the program right now and neither should be in it. Soonest you can retest is 2 years so the teacher always tell us to wait until then to retest so we can take advantage of the program. Getting my tax dollars worth.
