The documentary Divorce Corp tries to make it seem like its even with the anecdotal stories. However the theme remains the same: it's a system that's nothing but a cash grab for divorce attorneys. Not all of them are bad but there are a few that promise the sun, moon, and stars. All in hopes to get the other party to pay more, funneling that money into their pockets. Does it matter if the kids suffer, hell no. She looks at it as a free check every month to spend on cruises to Mexico and her attorney looks at it as additional income to milk out of her.

Start by paying the frick attention to our state legislators.

Most Louisiana legislators are attorneys. They abuse legislative continuances to the point it takes months, if not years to get to court. They did this in Texas and they finally reformed it.

Call out legislators that abuse the system. Former state senator Julie Quinn not only proposed to extend the legislative continuance to 60 days before and after a session, she also used her power as Judicial Committee chair to jail and fine (with no upper limit) anyone if child support payments were one day late, known as the "day late dollar short" bill.

Fortunately both of these ridiculous proposals failed but it didn't stop her from getting reelected. Additionally, another attorney in the legislature successfully got a law passed to extend the legislative continuance from 15 to 30 days before and after a session. It's nothing more than a get out of court free card while denying due process and they continue to rack up fees. Again, nothing more than a cash grab.

All because she was a scorned woman with a public and nasty divorce. Because she had a spat with her ex, she felt the rest of us had were all guilty. Thankfully Quinn isn't a state senator anymore but there are plenty attorneys, some of them practicing divorce law, who use their position in the legislature to basically line their pockets.

My brother is 60 his wife was around 48 when she left him for another man. My brother probably wasn't the best husband but he never beat her or anything like that, he just like to work , hunt , fish and really didn't care for going out to eat , dance , movies etc. Anyway they were married for 20 years and he raised her son. He had everything paid for and the most she ever made was $10 an hour. She left him for this other man , they went to court last week and he had to dip in his 401k to pay her court ordered 80k

it was just that he loved a motorcycle more than spending time with wife and three kids - especially on the weekends. He would say he's going for a quick ride and comeback late Saturday afternoon - crap got old for the wife. She was just raising the kids alone. So she gave him the boot and he still doesn't get it.

Another way of stopping this is encouraging your children to think.

A friend went through this. His high school aged daughter got into her monther's correspondence with her lawyer and read what her mother alleged. Daughter got really mad at the lies and at the money that the divorce had consumed. By then it was too late to do anything about the gone money as the child ended up in a college she could afford rather than the college she wanted to go to and could have afforded.

The daughter's relationship with her mother will never recover.

If anyone in here has ever been screwed over in a divorce

My ex leveled a bunch a baseless accusations to muddy the waters and hide her own misbehavior. Dragged my parents and friends into it. Custody battle lasted over 2 years, cost me north of $60k, and a ton of heartache. But I ended up with custody of the kids and kept all community property without paying her a dime. I hate that fricking bitch with every fiber of my being for what she put my parents, friends, and most especially the children thru.

Luckily I was married to a dumb kunt who knew it all and she ended up burying herself. Dumbass had like 10 credit cards in both our names

Mine only had 4 cards but to the tune of about $30K. My name wasn't on them but the CC companies informed me that we were in a community property state so I was responsible for half. I told them to get fricked and DIAF, that it'd be a cold day in hell before I paid for anything I didn't charge on a card I didn't know existed. Never heard from them again.

Divorce also shows you how stacked the courts are against Men.

Know a guy who's wife has been seeing another man for 2 years and had to be put in rehab, because she's on heroin.

She got out and wants EVERYTHING. and his lawyer is giving in to all demands, i'm pushing him to get a new lawyer. Even then, he's still at a huge disadvantage going in.

For every man that was won, there are 50, who had the judge take them to the woodshed, even with evidence of her infidelity.

A lot of truth in this post. I came out of mine better than any man I know. Mainly because I'm smarter than my ex, have more money, and most of all had a better attorney who actually had a code of ethics and wasn't interested in just seeing how big of fee could be collected in regards to my case.

Unfortunately he won't get a slam dunk win unless he can prove drugs or mental illness. Cheating/fricking/sucking dicks just isn't enough to take the kids away these days.

I won custody of my kids in both divorces. I won with Ex A because she was busted by the DEA trying to fill a fake prescription...she had custody at the time but I won my daughter back after that shite. Ex wife B had a mental breakdown and basically couldn't afford to battle me in court so I won that one too.

Jesus, man. Maybe you should throw in the towel when it comes to marriage. You’re not picking them well.

ETA typed this before seeing your “don’t get married” comment I agree. I don’t really want to ever remarry. Divorce is expensive bullshite.

I absolutely have...mentioned my situation earlier in this discussion on page 2 I think. I've actually made up with "B" now and we've been dating for a couple of years. We'll never get married and all is well.

Age 56, and I haven't weakened yet.

Years ago, a guy I worked for, who subsequently became a friend, told another guy and me "If you ever get the urge to get married, fight it!".

Truth...a buddy gave up all custody of is daughter because his ex manipulated her, falsely accusing him of ridiculous shite over the course of a couple years...after the courts found no wrongdoing, he signed over his rights and moved on
