Distinguished gentlemen of the OT, tell us some cool car stories from the 60's

When cars were awesome.
A guy told me a story the other day about how in high school one of his buddies had a car that had so much torque/power that they could set a beer can in front of the passenger front tire and he could launch the car so that that tire would hop over the can. I know he had a Superbee at the time, but I forget what kind of car the other guy had.

I got to use the launch control in a new 911 Turbo; 0 to 60 in under 3 seconds.

My dad had a red 442 with black racing stripes when he was at Tulane Law School in the 70s. He used to leave his car unlocked because cars would get broken into so much and he’d rather his shite get stolen than his windows get broken.

Nice! Amazing what can happen when a company like GM had their subsidiaries competing against each other the make awesome things.

I once stopped at the quicksack for some beer and cigaretts, and an old man cashier was staring at my corvette. He said he used to have one just like her in 1963...

Used to trade my motorcycle for a day to a friend who had a '64 Plymouth Sport Fury convertible. 426(non Hemi), Hurst 4 speed, 4 bbl, dual exhaust with a 410 rear end.
O-60 was quick, at 90 it felt like it was going to blow apart. Good times.

Not from the 60's but, it was the night of the last day of school of my 8th grade year. I had just finished pitching a gem in my little league baseball game. Some of the juniors who were friends with my older sister picked me up in a 1970 Pontiac GTO. We were cruising around town smoking a spleef when one of the guys decided to grab trash cans and chunk them at mailboxes. They had demolished a couple of them when I got the bright idea to throw the bowling ball I found in the rear floorboard. I leaned out the window and threw it as hard as I could, smashing some poor guy's rear window. Obviously we didn't stick around. We decided to stop at the store down the road to grab a six pack of beer, or sixer, as we used to call it in those days. As my buddy and I get back in the car some guy pulls up and sticks a snub nose revolver in my buddy's face. Apparently we smashed his mailbox and he followed us. My friend slammed it in reverse and sped out of there, burning rubber the whole way. The guy fired a couple of shots but there was no catching us in that GTO. We continued to get shite faced and I ended up hooking up with an older chick. One of the greatest nights of my life.

Drove a white 62 Corvair when I was an undergraduate (my sister's car) and later a 55 Chevy I bought from my dad for $150.00.

My 1964 356C 0-60 time is 13.5 seconds. I am certain that adding launch control to my 1600cc would take that time closer to your turbo time.

My father had a classic car restoration business, too many cool cars to choose from over the years.
Cars I wish he still had:
1967 Shelby GT500
DeTamaso Mangusta
Lamborghini Countach

Had a 68 Chevy Impala. Mine had a 427 and would run like a spotted-arse-ape.

My dad's buddies were a bunch of gearheads. They took this old fifty-something dodge boat of a car and suped up the engine. They would place a quarter on the dashboard at a stop sign, and then gun it and watch the quarter hit the windshield. Then, they would cram like 20 people in the car, and a few more in the trunk, to get into Thunderbird Beach on the cheap.

Rare car, only made 401 of them. It was the precursor to the Pantera, and was much more attractive IMO.

I was born in 1964. Once, when I turned 5, a bunch of my buddies and I got into my mom's station wagon and got pretty rowdy at Shakey's pizza. Wore fake straw hats and watched Laurel & Hardy reruns. Was pretty wild!

I know a guy from BR Who sunk his entire inheritance into a complete re-build (literally, from the frame up) of a 69 Camaro SS in 1990. Fact-O-Bake metallic forest green, and all the trimmings under the hood that you could ask for. It took the better part of 9 months to complete, we would go check on it every few days and eat Panchos. He had a roll cage inside, too.
First time I rode in it, he got up to 110 on Perkins between college and essen before almost losing it and killing us both. Too much car for him to handle at 17 yrs old, and I never rode in it again...didn't have a chance to, cuz
Less than a week later, he added nitrous, tried that shite again on Essen (without me) and lost it. Hospital for about 10 days, and a hunk of scrap metal that cost him about 40k.
You can't make this shite up...it's too stupid.
FFWD 9 years, and he is now a repo man for GMAC and would spend alot of time working in Tangi and crashing at my apt. One day he repos this brand new Corvette ZR-1, and drives it away himself, no tow truck, no paperwork...keeps it for about 10 days, dragging it up and down Wardline Road, driving it all over from BR to NOLA to Lafayette before turning it in.
