I rented mine out last year. It was easy. I think I got $10 a point or something like that

Yeah, it's real easy to do. As renting becomes even more popular, the points are coming harder and harder to come by, but they always come up. Sometimes just not at 11 months.

I was toying with the idea a couple months, now that I'm here and we stayed at the all star again(after staying the last two times at the Polynesian and Grand Floridian I don't think I can go back to the value again. Plus having two small kids and a stroller I definitely want to stay somewhere on the monorail. Would I benefit from renting points over buying? I can probably swing a cash purchase of either a full membership or resale.

If you plan on going a lot, buy. If occassional trips are more your thing, then rent.
We go a lot so we bought. I have friends who go every 3 or 4 years, so they rent.
Best advice I can offer is buy where you see yourself staying the most, if you do decide to buy.

I would rent and see how you like it. Bay lake and grand Floridian are your option on the monorail. But Boardwalk and beach club are both within reasonable walking distance to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. After you rent at a couple places and determined if that works well for you and how easy it is, Then decide if and where you want to buy. I'd go resale. What you "lose" is the ability to use your points on the cruise and adventures by disney which is a program that uses other resorts and companies around the world. It's not worth it. Cash is cheaper to do those things.

If you go to disney world alot, you can probably benefit from buying. Not as much if you try and use your points for something not at WDW.

If you rent, you will definitely benefit rather than renting from WDW.

The types and amounts of benefits are too individualized to say blindly yes or no one way or the other and needs to be evaluated over a long period of being an owner, not just before buying.

Hey what did they do recently on the resale market? They did away with some benefits that people who purchase directly from Disney get. I can't remember what it is though.

I think one of the changes they made maybe last year was that resales where not eligible to use their points on Disney Cruise Line. I also know there was talk that Disney was going to impose that resales would only be eligible to use points at their home resort, but that hadn't really gone anywhere that I am aware of.

You mean what I listed? Can't use points for the cruise or adventures by disney. Which you shouldn't be using points for anyway. The point cost is way too high. You should pay cash.

I thought there were other things but maybe that's it. I was thinking of doing like 100 point add on to my existing contract and using the resale market and hope to pass right of first refusal.

It's not the best investment really. That's 8k that you don't invest and won't see a real return on for 10-12 years. Think how much that 8k could have gained in those 12 years?

Beach Club, then added on at Bay Lake Tower

We are currently awaiting Disney ROFR on re-sale points at both. We plan to use BCV in May once every 3 years and BLT in Nov once every 3 years. Basically a Disney trip every year and a half.

I was referring to only using them to rent out. I've got 6 in-laws coming with us next trip.

Did you see they're testing FP+ only at Toy Story this week?

Yep. Huge mistake. They'd be screwing a whole bunch of annual pass holders and locals who go on a whim. Not to mention those who don't plan every moment. The teirs were the first mistake, now this. People have already been fired for MB. Looks like a few more need to go. Lines are inevitable. Where will these people be while waiting for their time? Waiting even longer for other rides.

Someone explain to me how this is a good deal?
If i go once a year for 10 years and stay a week, assuming i use all my points, and i end up paying something like 35k for those 10 years, how is that a good deal?
Why would i spend $3,500 on 6 nights at a hotel? that's over $500/night. I still have to spend close to a grand in tickets to the parks for that time for 4. so now the vacation is $4,500 plus food and what not, this vacation is well over $5k for a family of 4.

I can stay at a hotel for a week on sight with passes to all the parks for $2k if i dont stay at a deluxe hotel and something like the Art of Animation or All Star Movie Resort

WHat else am i getting with this vacation club?
