Start working out to strengthen it when you can. I dislocated mine, and it dislocated about 200 times over the next 7 years before I finally had surgery.

When you roll over in bed tonight and it re-dislocates you won't feel very numb.Had it happen three times on the first night alone. YOu probably need your doc to prescribe something more powerful than advil for the next couple of weeks. Takes about six to twelve months to fully recover. Will need to to some PT to get strength and range of motion back. Good luck.

I didn't go the surgery route. Got lucky. Happened five years ago. Was good to go about a year after the accident.

This. Had the surgery back in May. I dislocated it 2 times where I needed to go to the hospital and be put under for it to be put back in. Between those times it probably slipped out 40-50 times. If it never happens again the pain of the surgery was well worth it.

Nothing like sitting in the emergency room for an hour with your shoulder dislocated.

You should also go get it checked out. If it was dislocated bad enough and you put it back in you may have torn something if you didnt do it right. Also don't take muscle relaxers. A good way for it to come back out.

Depends on the reason for dislocation. Do you have weak deltoid and rotator cuff musculature ( which basically holds it in contact with the glenoid fossa) or maybe you have a tear in the labrum (Drew Brees). Either way, you need to seek medical advice.

A good PT can do a couple of special tests and determine of they can treat or whether you new to seek a physician for furtheredical diagnosis.

Had mine Dislocated in Spring training before my Sr. year. I Rehabbed it every day over the summer. 3rd practice I dislocated it again and tore my rotator cuff. Had to have surgery and Missed my entire Sr. year of football...... My advice is to Get an MRI done ASAP all the rehab and training aint gonna repair a tear.

Buddy of mine shoulder popped out while I was towing him water skiing. By the time we got back to him his arm was up in the air and wrapped around his neck.

It was humurous trying to get him in the boat.

Same thing happened to me. Was the last time I skied. It was a very long boat ride to the house, and a very long car ride to the hospital.

Go to the drug store and buy a type of sling. It wraps around your chest, wrist and bicep. It will hold your shoulder/arm in place.

Didn't pop out during sleep, but it hurts like all hell today. Not swollen, gonna rest it to see if it improves the next couple of days. Might scan MRI for next week if it's worse. Happened once in HS 8 or 9 years ago and it was worse than this I think. My ortho said if it went back in immediately on it's own like it did, I'm probably fine and to call him next week with update. Recommended sling until then, but no way I'm doing that.

If I were you, I'd do the sling.

Your ortho shouldn't need an MRI until the condition becomes chronic and he feels like its time to do some pre-operative planning
