Dish holds up much better in bad weather and they aren't as stubborn as DirecTV on channel negotiations

I have to call BS on this. I left Dish for DirecTV (specifically because Dish dropped all of the Fox Sports channels at one time), because they couldn't reach an agreement. I was otherwise very happy with Dish.

The biggest issue with satellite tv is the majority of installers are idiots that answered an ad and sat in a classroom for a couple hours. If you get a decent installer you'll be fine, if not, you will have to go behind them and make sure you are getting the best possible signal (aiming the dish) and the brace is as secure as you can get it.

After I made adjustments my signal only went out when the wind was blowing very hard.

the fact is satellite providers have less "down time" every year than cable providers do

Believable. Every time the Cardinals play in the World Series I lose a game through some day outage with TWC

It happened in 2011 and 2013 and I was heatedddd

I have Dish. I have had the signal go out twice in really bad weather since I got it in June. From what I can tell, it is pretty similar to DirectTV. I chose it over DirectTV solely because of NFL football.

All I wanted was the Redzone channel. Dish offers this in their $11/month multi-sport package which you can cancel at anytime. DirectTV requires you to purchase NFL Sunday ticket to get the Redzone channel, which is free the first year but several hundred dollars in year 2. Sure you get access to every game, but I didn't need that. Dish was much cheaper for what I wanted.

ETA: I kept my Cox Internet. I haven't tried dish Internet, but I haven't heard great things.

Just pay attention to all of the fees that go along with the new hopper. They get you from every direction.

If Dish offered the same channel as Direct...no brainer...because Dish in ten years only went out once during a hellish thunder storm.

As I said earlier Direct goes out if a leaf blows by the dish.

If it ever goes out during an LSU game I'll go back to Dish regardless of channel selection.

I had direct go out once, it was for 2 minutes. Your dish is aligned incorrectly

I saw nay. When it rains hard enough, you are watching black screens. They claim to have new dishes that prevents the signal from breaking up in rain, but thats a lie. It happens all the time at my rents house and they only got dish last year.

I've never had that problem. I'm starting to think the people who do have gotten a sloppy installer who either put the dish in the wrong place or didn't properly aim it. I had the Dish people themselves do the install, not one of their dealers.

and when satellite goes out its usually only for a matter of minutes at the most. when cable goes out it can be out for extended periods of time.

YAY. Make sure you get it mounted on a pole and not your roof that helps alot. The weather issue is much better than it was.

Had both Direct and Dish both go out bit Direct was much more frequent. Even after reaiming the dish perfectly.

I went with Dish for CST to watch LSU baseball.

I've had Dish Network and Cable, have direct TV right now. To me, Comcast cable was much better then either satellite, but it isn't an option where I live now. Direct TV and Dish Network are about the same IMO. I cancel one for the other whenever I can get a cheaper deal.

I've never had 1 issue with Uverse. Obviously something is wrong with your hookup or you just need to reset the box.

comcast cable is pretty much the gutter of tv services. and that is widely accepted.
