I am moving later this week and trying to get DIRECTV and interwebs set up in new house. Att/dtv is telling me they won't do it until the previous customer cancels and pays. How in the hell am I supposed to control that? Any ideas?

Tell them (ATT/DTV) if they don't take care of the problem you are going with Cox. They will fold like a cheap suit.

Lulz. Their receiver ID's have nothing to do with you. The rep you spoke with probably has trouble tying his/her own shoelaces. Once again, you are using your receivers not the deadbeat's receivers that won't pay their bill. Tell the rep to stop fricking with you because they're dead wrong.

Person I talked to at DTV just called the current owners and asked them if they needed to cancel service soon. Talk to a supervisor and you might luck out.

This company is such a joke. I just cancelled my service with them because I was under the impression I had a yearly contract and not a 2-year. They tried to up my bill from the promotional $63/month to $120. I rarely use cable to begin with other than sports.

I called and cancelled and they said they'd charge me $20 a month for the remaining months on my contract as an early termination fee. I said fine with me, I'm still saving money.

Fast forward to last week and they never sent me the boxes to return the equipment and they charge me $120. I call and curse out the rep I spoke to because they said they had no record of me calling and cancelling my contract. They said they'd have to go back and search their records for any call I made and review the recording to determine if I can get refunded.

Such a BS company. frick them. I'e gotten pissed off all over again just typing this.

Had a similar problem with Cox years ago. Came and picked up equipment then said I didn't give them back the correct modem, that I gave them the free modem back and they would have to charge me for the modem I didn't return. I paid for the modem that I had.

They never got money from me. Had a friend that worked there that took care of it for me.

Cut the cord and throw a friend or family $20 a month for their logins.

Stop paying these assholes.

This is just a blantant money grab by these assholes to hold you hostage hoping you will throw in on someone else's delinquent account.

It's criminal.
