Been trying to lower my bill, but each time I contact them the CSR's only suggestion is to drop some of the movie channels or get rid of Sunday Ticket (not an option). I've even threatened cancelling, but they appeared to be cool with that.
What would be the best movie channels to dump? HBO, Cinemax, Showtime, Encore? Any other suggestions?

Go on over to the tech board and look at cutting the cord.

Keep HBO and drop everything else.
HBO covers most of the same movies and has all of their original series.

Really? They always offer to cut my bill if I try to cancel. You need to call their bluff bro.

yep.
i told them i wanted to be under $80 with starz (yes HBO is better, but i like their series and the get all of Disney and Marvel movies for the kids) and espn. they coulnd't get there so i just said cancel my service this at the end of this bill. you have to do it without balking. don't back down, but be ready to have your bluff called.
she said "sorry to lose you, but let me see what else i can do" and boom $78 a month.

It seems like ever since AT&T bought them out they like to play hardball with the prices even more. I've been with Directv for 8 years and I used to always have great success with keeping my bill below $100 a month with Choice XTRA package but over the last year and a half that hasn't been the case and I'm contemplating bolting to PS Vue but my wife won't allow it without a functional live DVR to pause and rewind when the kids get loud and rowdy before I lay the smack down.

They are all playing hardball now. Best bet is to cancel and switch to something like Vue for up to 90 days so you will be a new customer again.
BTW Vue has a cloud DVR which pretty much works the same.

I would cancel HBO. There is no new-programming and they just replay 20 yr old movies

Encore and Cinemax blow loads. HBO shows the same movies for two months straight, but they have Silicon Valley and Ballers. Showtime is rocking out with the cock out on TV series shows.
