Last month I received a subpoena from Tangipahoa Parish to report for jury duty. It was delivered to my home by a sheriffs officer. I thought the norm was a summons sent in the mail? Is this something different? Am I looking at having to serve jury duty?

Most state courts call jurors through personal or domicillary service through the sheriff's office (usually they have one or more officers assigned to that role.

Fed. Ct. might serve through the mail.

A personally delivered subpoena means the court can hold you in contempt for not showing. Court can send a deputy to get you.

A mailed summons can be ignored Bc it can't be proven that you received it.

Sounds pretty serious, they might be sending you back to Mexico.

It's a scam. I just read something about it on Facebook. A lady and her 12 year old almost got raped, thankfully they were able to not get raped.

You are now a jury member in a trial that is conducted by mail.

Both sides should be sending their cases later this week and you checked which side you thought won and mail it back in.

If the sheriff served it that means the court can verify receipt. I would think they will probably hold you in contempt if you don't show up. It's just an educated guess.
