Asking for a friend.

We got to sign a paddle if we misbehaved.

I spent almost all of 2nd grade writing spelling words on the chalkboard during recess and after lunch. I put a thumbtack in my teacher's chair and I was the only one in the class laughing when she sat on it. Needless to say, she was not happy with me and I didn't see recess again until 3rd grade.

When I was younger we had to write linesnif we misbehanved and then get our parents to sign. That was worse than the lines.

When I was in college, I used fo sub at a couple schools and while I was extremely lenient, I would also give lines to those who woukd take advantage of it. The best part was that I woukd tell the class to settle down, and when kids didnt Id start writing the sentences on the board until the stopped talking. Typically each line would be a paragraph of 3 to 4 lines and Id start it at 10-15 lines. If they didnt turn them in the next day, they would double, and so on.

Gotta say it was pretty funny see'ing responses from parents saying they appreciated that I held the kids accountable. Majority or the time the lines always explained exactly what the kids were doing to be assigned the punish work so it wasnt like they could say I made the whole class do it.

In middle school they made us write something like 5k-10k words out of the encyclopedia. As smart as I was I would always pick "dog". One day I counted out every word to the exact number I needed in the book so I always knew where to stop From fifth to eighth grade I wrote the same thing over and over again like three times a week. I was getting good at it. Sometimes finishing with a half hour left. In high school they just made us sit in a desk with our hands palm down for an hour. Pretty fricking boring.

Then had to subtract by 187 down to zero.

That and some teachers would just throw up "100" "200" 300 which meant number of words in an essay on misbehaving. I got paddled in 1st grade in 1987

they were old teachers. Said lines could be written on a computer.

They also had no idea about copy and paste.

As in punish work? In high school we use to write some shite the was in the student code of conduct handbook. It was common to have to write it 100 times, but at some point while in high school they started doing in school suspension and the punish work was reduced big time. In school was much better than punish work.
