The answer is No. Southern University received that land due to a grant back in 1914 and began building long before Huey became powerful.

Why would he have felt the need to do that back in his day? Couldn't he have had Southern constructed wherever the heck he wanted to?

I've also heard that he build the old bridge too low for trading ships to go past NOLA and BR to trade/sell up river.

This rumor is stupid and needs to go away

South of LSU was empty pastures and farmland

Why would anyone propose to put a campus on swamp land when there is empty land next to the south side of campus?

The school was granted land on the Bluffs in 1914 and the first permanent buildings were funded in 1922 and began construction in 1923.

I figured the rumor was started and spread by latent and obvious racists... It just seemed too ridiculous to be true.


I haven't heard much to disprove it though, until now.

many people think this is the most scenic view in BR (not that that is saying anything)
