I'll be in Destin next week with the family (wife and two boys, 12 and 10). We do not have anything planned. What are some recommendations for food, golf, fishing, and whatever else might be worthwhile?

It's Destin, the place is full of everything you want to do and the traffic this time of year is a nightmare

Why do people wait until the last minute to figure out stuff to do on vacations? Especially going to a place during their peak season.

The last time I was there we went to Senor Frog for a fun afternoon.
Don't know if it's still open but if so your family would enjoy the sights.

Young kids?

My son was two and a half first time we went and HUGE into pirates. We did the Bucaneer pirate tour. They entertain kids and sell you beer for about 90 minutes. I was a hero!

If you like boats and your kids are older, their boat rentals are reasonable for all day? I think $450. Wear your Maui Jims that wrap around so you can stare at strange all day.

Also had a huge complex of restaurants and bars with a little lake in the middle. Hotels attached. Golf course was attached. Subdivision attached. Just a good place to entertain everyone for a few hours. But just solid, not great. Think of a massive Landrys/Fertitta type place or compound.

Do your research. Cause, as mentioned, traffic will suck. Going from place to place would be a nightmare.

Big Kahuna's for the kids. Save a couple bucks if you buy your tickets online, as well as not waiting in line.

Eat ice cream/frozen custard from Shake's. It's amazing.

Eat pizza at Jordano's down in Miramar.

Get donuts from The Donut Hole.

other than that, drink, nap, and sit on the dang beach. It's a beach trip, not NYC. Don't plan anything.

Crab Trap is a crowd pleaser. There are several kid-friendly attractions. If the womanfolk want to, Destin has some nice outlet stops and some restaurants in each that are outlet-style and formulaic but would definitely please the gentler gender when she's toting kids.

But me personally? I'll be in Ernge Beach in less than a month's time for an entire week. I plan on nothing more than spackling on something with an SPF above 50, bringing a beach chair and an umbrella as well as an ice chest filled with contents that will allow me to wage a long, slow, drawn out assault on my liver.

Is it really a requirement to figure out and book all of your shite to do months in advance when one is just going to the beach in Florida?

That's one of the reasons I like the beach trips so much is that it doesn't have to be planned out and structured.

Most of the food options are over priced tourist trap typical seafood.

Donut hole is actually really good breakfast brunch fair.

There's a mellow mushroom there, I love their pizza so we usually hit that up.

Take advantage of the access to fresh seafood in the markets though if you are in a condo with a kitchen and or outdoor grilling space.

And if you don't, I don't know why a turkey sandwich and sun chips tastes better when I go to the beach, but it just does. It's science.
