I was at N Ft Polk in those condemned barracks also. And we left shortly thereafter for Ft. Hood.

I was standing on a bunker at Al Dhafra AB watching F-16s roll through our threat warning squirt boxes on their way to the runway.

I was in STA, 2/7. We were there early on doing jack shite for at least six months or more.

I am more sorry that you had to live in Ft Polk and Leesville for a time than I am that you had to go to Iraq.

The up vote and down vote arrows are too close together. I had a horrible batting average in this thread. Sorry

I was sitting with Weapons Co. 3/23 out of Baton Rouge as a heavy machine gunner in north Saudi Arabia listening to the air war starting up. Bombed them for a good 5 weeks before the ground war started in late February.
Had a mini reunion at the Pelican House a couple days after Christmas...had 16 guys out of the 27 in our platoon show up plus their spouses. We've stayed close and meet up fairly often. Had 5 guys from my HS(Woodlawn) in the same platoon.
Semper Fi!

Never served, I was married at the time with two young kids, living in New Orleans.
I watched the run-up every night, and then when the first bombs fell over Baghdad, I saw the green-tinted film that was on every channel.
And of course, every pants-pissing news anchor was saying that WWIII was going to start, there were going to be thousands of dead in the first few days, we were going to need the draft again and everyone under 30 was going to get drafted.
