Yeah two of the people are my brothers who I lived with for 15-20 years and the other are 2 of my friends who I lived with for multiple years. So you couldn't be more wrong but nice try at pretending to know what you are talking about.

I want to make sure I'm understood here. I'm not white knighting for lazy fat people. Most overweight people could be in shape with diet and excersise. I happen to know multiple people who don't fit the normal description on both sides so I'm just playing devils advocate. Crap I'm a perfect example of weight being managed with discipline and a little work. When I buckel down, diet and workout like I should I lose weight easily. Like I have lost 30-40 pounds in just a couple of months more than once. My problem is staying disciplined and not going back to the unhealthy life style.Im on top of it now and I never want to go back.So I know better than most that it is a matter of choice for the vast majority.

Can't believe this thread is still alive. Has mouton ever stated his qualifications in the health field or is he still bragging about his 32 inch waist?

there is literally nothing she says that is wrong.

quote:There are several causes of hypothyroidism, the most common being autoimmune thyroiditis, including hashimoto thyroiditis. Basically the body produces antibodies against healthy tissues that destroy the thyroid gland. Medications are also a common cause. It's diagnosed with simple blood tests and treated with synthetic thyroid hormone (usually levothyroxine) that you can take by mouth once per day.
I only ask because the diagnosis is apparently increasing and simply saying "you're fat" is not necessarily a treatment.
While hypothyroidism undoubtedly causes weight gain, it only represents a small minority of obese patients, the majority of which have normal thyroid function.
Not that it matters, because this info can be easily found on the Internet, but I am an internist and I treat patients with hypothyroidism fairly routinely.

Lack of iodine fightin Tigers is the main cause. I'm not sure why there is any argument at all googling under active thyroid is all anyone has to do

I think I once saw like 12% have a thyroid condition.
No way. If this is the case, man, thyroid disease certainly swept across America in the matter of a decade. Go back and look at yearbooks or other group photos from the 1950s, 60s, 70s or 80s. Perfectly looking normal, thin kids and adults.

I guess this country got a lot of cases of "bad thyroid" out of the blue...
I need more upvotes for this post. I looked at my mom's LSU yearbook from the mid 60's the other day. The fattest person in her class looked 15-20lbs overweight, and there were really only a handful in her class that looked overweight at all. So can someone explain how 12% of the population is all of a sudden having genetic problems that didn't exist a generation ago?

quote:Because a generation ago people fat-shamed themselves. Now they make excuses. That said, I'm in the process of dropping 20 lbs because I'm ashamed that I feel tired all the time, my clothes don't fit right, I've lost strength, I never feel really good, just okay, and I look like crap.
So can someone explain how 12% of the population is all of a sudden having genetic problems that didn't exist a generation ago?

You do realize this is an actual thing right? I mean like science and all. If your thyroid is messed up it can kill your metabolism and energy level. There may be too many people claiming this, but millions do in fact have this problem.

Your thyroid isn't the reason you ballooned. You ballooned because you ate to ducking much.
Apparently you've never known anybody with a thyroid condition. The thyroid gland is what regulates your body's metabolism.
