I use barbasol on my head and just hot water from the shower on my face. I also don't use after shave. After a few weeks the skin on your face will get tougher (the way a man is supposed to be) from not be lathered up and destroyed by shaving cream and after shave and you'll never get razor burn again. I also use Dollar Shave Club blades.

I'm partial to the EJ 89 combined with the yellow (Russian) Gillette 7 O'clock blades. That took a good bit of experimenting. I started with a Merkur, which I still like, but almost any blade is more irritating to my face in that razor than with the EJ.

I may look at some vintage options this year or next. Vintage guys swear by them. I'm going to try the 7 O'clock black blades next time around. They're stupid cheap, 25 cents a blade - I tend to use a blade only 3 or 4 times because it is so cost effective compared to cartridges.

I tried soap, but it was too much work for me. I switched to Proraso and never looked back. Went from mentholated to sandalwood. I don't use a lot of aftershave, but I never did before.

merkur, feather blades, razorock soap. I currently have 5 diff scents of soap. blades are very cheap, much better shave to me.

I just bought a Merkur a few days ago for shaving my neck, as I am currently bearded. Worked great and can't believe I was shaving my neckline with a multi-blade for so long.

Wilkinson Swords were probably the second best for me when I started. My technique is better now, so I should try them again, along with Feathers - particularly in the EJ.

Razor Shaving would be a pretty cool name for a defensive end.

I didn't really do too badly. Get a styptic pencil and that will help a lot. I did get a little abrasion and the occasional nick because I didn't know what I was doing. Then you get comfortable and you'll actually get a few more because you'll go a lot faster. I still get the occasional one in a problem area around the nose, or careless get my ear for no good reason. But it's not like you're cutting your throat. There are lots of youtube video and badgerandblade.com as a community to help you get started.

Merkur 34-C handle. Badger brush, ceramic mug. Taylor of Old Bond St Sandlewood shave cream. Start with something like a blade sampler pack to see which one you like. I worked up to a slant bar with Feather blades. Don't start there, you will turn your bathroom into a Hitchcock movie until you learn how to shave with one.

I personally just got some razor at an antique store. The blades matter the most. The best way to find a go-to razor is to get a sampler pack off Amazon. I personally like Silver Blue by Gillette.

I got razor burn pretty bad for a while. But not a lot of cuts. And the razor burn was from not knowing what I was doing.

Put a hot towel on your face first or shave right out of a hot shower. Get a good cream (I use Taylor of old bond street, but to be honest, the tube of Nivea that I bought at CVS worked fine). Just remember that you do not have to apply any pressure. Just let the weight of the blade do the work and gently pull short strokes. I keep a beard, but can shave my neck and clean up with two passes very quickly. I don't even think about the possibility of cutting myself or razor burn anymore. Figured it out in a few weeks and haven't paid more than 20 bucks for shaving supplies in nearly 2 years.
