Every year my daughter enters a photograph into the State Jr BETA Club convention. Two years ago, she took 4th in the state.

We are looking for a rustic Americana scene to photograph within 4 hours drive of BR. We shot New Orleans last year. I am planning on heading north or west (Hwy 190 or Hwy 61).

We are not looking to photograph Antebellum homes.

We are looking for something along these lines.

Any rec's? (doesn't have to be a gas station, just rustic Americana)

So you're looking for some run down ramshackledy derelict structures? Why leave Baton Rouge? You don't bring sand to the beach baw.

But seriously, if you want shitty and weird, I haven't found any place shittier or weirder than Port Arthur, TX.

Go up 61 to Lorman MS - you'll see a lot of rustic Americana along the way, such as Mammy's Cupboard in Natchez. Eat lunch at the Country Store then turn around and come back. If you don't want to drive that far you could even eat at Mammy's.

Check out On the Border near the LA/MS line

Another option is to drive up to Lettsworth/Legonier. They have a lot of this type of stuff up there

We may do this because I want to shoot the bridge in St Francisville at sunset.

Check out the louisiana registry of homes that were on the INSIDE of the Mississippi river levee and abandoned.

Check out the northern parts of Pointe Coupee parish. A lot of good scenery on LA 1

Drive through "downtown" areas of small towns. You'll see all the rundown old buildings that were once thriving business. Nothing screams Americana like that.

Agree with this. The stretch of Morganza, Batchelor, Innis, Lettsworth on LA 1 have some old stuff.

Gemiluth Chessed (Acts of Loving Kindness) is a Moorish Revival synagogue in Port Gibson, Mississippi. It is the oldest surviving synagogue in the state and the only building of this architectural style. It was built in 1892 by a community of Jewish immigrants from German states and Alsace-Lorraine. Due to declining population, the congregation closed in 1986.

Mammy's Cupboard in Natchez

Born in Natchez and went back every few weeks after we moved. Every time I saw the "fat lady" on 61 I knew we were getting close.
