Can't imagine how long it's going to take to repay those student loans.

I can understand questions but not rudeness.
Jessica is a missionary IN Israel, not a missionary TO Israel. Her reason for going to Israel is that God called her. You may question her beliefs but many people support her.

Although the Methodist Church does not pay her, the church approved a tight budget for living expenses, with her left to come up with all funds needed. As for raising funds, when people learned what she was going to do, many were anxious to help. Money contributed beyond her budget will buy food and help for the needy.

As for military experience, I cannot understand why anyone would think i would have a reason to tell some untruths. I enlisted in the navy at 17. I served on the USS Pickens at Iwo and Okinawa. I will be 89 August 21.

Yo, hey, this is Israel. We feel we don't have enough religion and have selected YOU to come stir the proverbial shite.

It is the highest arrogance to think your religion is better than someone else's. Disrespect to try to convert anybody.

Grow a pair and try telling that to a Muslim extremist.

He said she was 25 in June. Maybe he trailed off like olds sometimes do and left out the "summer of 1945" part.

No disrespect to the OP or his daughter..But the World would be so much of a better place if people actually traveled to these countries and worked their arse off in service of different people JUST for the sake of being a good human being, learning about other cultures, and not trying to evangelize.

Why? If you believe that evangelizing will save souls, isn't that every bit as important as making sure your host country has schools and clean water? Not to mention that Christians are directly called to evangelize?

I certainly understand people who are not Christians not being so hot on evangelizing. But looking at it from a neutral perspective, it makes me laugh that people would object to those who volunteer to go to various areas, do good works, and in so doing try to lead people to a faith that the missionary believes will, quite literally, save the soul of people being converted.

As for "just for the sake of being a good human being," it's a nice concept, but I'd argue that it's a weaker basis than religion for charity. Whether you agree with Christianity or not, any religion, frankly, it's hard to deny the ability of faith to compel people to act. For good or for bad. It far exceeds notions of political correctness or diversity or mere goodwill that has supplanted faith in some areas and communities.

And I'm not shitting on just "being a good person," I'm simply arguing that toiling away for decades in some shithole needs a really strong basis for being there, and IMO, religion provides that.

So you don't think that it's arrogant of them to think that blowing themselves up along with innocent men, women, and children will convert people?

I'm guessing you're trolling. It's an innate part of Christianity. If people aren't receptive, I agree, you shouldn't disrespectfully continue to pursue them. But if people are open or neutral to your pitch, or even if they disregard it but don't cut you off, why wouldn't you continue trying to do something you think will change their life?

Converting Jews/Muslims, or just doing kind acts for our fellow humans?

Good luck to her. Like you, I would have much trepidation if any of my daughters chose this path. Could be a wonderful experience for her though, and trips like that make you really glad to live in the US.

anyone link that yet?

Seriously though, be proud of her, whether you believe in your faith or not, the strength she shows by doing this is admirable and commendable. The world would be a better place and all that.

Gonna go ahead and edit this. Might have jumped the gun on this one on the assholeness. My bad, carry on.

You are such a fricking a-hole, even by OT standards. Would you speak to your grandfather or great grandfather that way? Seriously, seek help.

Fair enough. Please be aware that I noted you are nearly 90 with a 25 year old daughter and left it at that.

I realize that sort of thing is very unusual but it happens. That said, false claims online are pretty common.

Why should anyone waste my time with their story about religion?

Religion is a private thing and it is quite rude to ask others about their faith and tell others about their faith as well.

It is unfortunate that a lot of Christians don't understand that.

Ya know , I read crap like this all the time on this board but I have lived in the south my whole life and the only people that have ever approached me about religion have been black women with "Watchtower" pamphlets , whatever that is
