I have a brand new house and my humidity stays at about 80%. I have to use a dehumidifier to avoid wet-feeling sheets in bed

Something is wrong here.

Too much AC for the living area?

42-45 % at 75" in Laffy. New variable speed Trane really gets the humidity down with long, slow run times

It is a two story place with intake on the 2nd floor. I don't know the exact numbers but my place is 1500 sq ft and I think it was 2.5 ton system.

Does the AC run all the time?

Assuming no foam, 2.5 tons is not enough.

Just scooped some air into a glass and there is no water in it, so I'd say about 0% humidity. Sorry you poors can't afford good insulation

It barely runs. I could be wrong about the tons but the upstairs is cold and downstairs is warmer. I've purchased a thermostat with remote sensors but isn't helping the humidity.

My AC repair guy/installer said I needed to put some curtain up on a large window that faces east. I told him that this would not affect the humidity....

Then my first thought was correct.

The AC isn't running long enough to pull the moisture out of the air.

This could be that the house is over-insulated or the AC was sized incorrectly for the space. Mold can be problem with these situations as well.

Hopefully an AC guy will post with more info.

Try setting your differential to 2 degrees.

Quick snapshot from my Nest thermostat. Only my dog is home right now so it's running the "away" program.
