How are they are so good at getting inside the house? God I hate those little shits.

I swear as soon as I open the garage they go straight for the door.
Posted on 2/8/17 at 1:51 am to Spock's Eyebrow
They get into my car and die on the dash.

I dunno, but I can't bring myself to hate them or kill them. I mean, they eat fricking mosquitos. They rock.

No they don't. They're more worthless than lovebugs.

These are not mosquito hawks. Mosquito hawks are dragon flies. They eat mosquitoes, hence the name.
***edit***
Apparently they are both called mosquito hawks. I stand corrected.

I thighs these things ate mosquitoes, but after conducting some research, I see now that they don't. Damn, I've been lied to for 30+ years??

I can't believe this has been a myth the whole time. Apparently the only flying insect that eats adult mosquitoes is the dragonfly.

They don't even have mouth parts just ignore them. Tipulidae.. looks like green water grubs before they emerge to breed and die

People sometimes think I am rude when I don't believe what they say until I verify it.
That so many people still believe the old wives tale of crane flies eating mosquitoes demonstrates the correctness of my general skepticism.

The real mosquito hawk, the dragon fly, is where it's at.

They like ponds and water features (same shite mosquitoes like; go figure).
They like to light on tall plants or objects that stick up above the surrounding plants. If you have a dowel or stick in a pot that rises over the plant, they will often light on it. We have an iron rod/spear thing in a potted plant on the patio, and there is almost always one on it during the summer.

Growing up we called crane flies gyros. And they make great cat toys.
