Coworker who constantly has a "death in the family"

Anybody ever work with one of these? I have a co-worker now who I swear every 2-3 weeks has some "tragedy" she has to miss a couple days of work for. One week it's her cousin passed away, next her husband got in a car wreck, then it's her kid broke his arm in football, then her dad passes away, then she has the flu, then her best friend is in a coma...on and on.
I have no clue if she's full of shite or not. Maybe it's all true, but it just starts to seem unlikely that tragedy can occur on such a regular basis to the same person during the work week. Especially since most of these tend to pop up when we are the busiest. It's just aggravating because everyone else in the office has to pick up that person's slack, but nobody is going to risk calling her out on it and risk being the biggest dick in the office if you're wrong.
Anybody ever have one of these co-workers get exposed, or caught somewhere else when they said they'd be at a funeral or something? At what point would you have to fire somebody for this if you were the boss?

Make them bring in the obituary for an "excused" absence from work. This is what my college professor did to me when I missed a final one year for a death.

Are you the boss? If not, mind your own business and just do your job.
I have a bigger problem with petty coworkers trying to get in everyone else's business rather than just keeping their head down and focusing that energy on the job.

Deaths are fairly easy to confirm online.
Watched a secretary get fired years ago for lying about her dad dying.
Used it as an excuse. VP wanted to send flowers - she wouldn't answer her phone. Someone tracked her mom down and her dad hadn't been heard from since she was in high school. Turns out she went to the beach with a guy she had met the week before.
It was ugly.

one lady that used to work for me would miss work all the time for a "sick kid"
my comment was - can your husband not take care of the sick kid every once in a while?

Firing a person that's desperate enough for a day off to kill their family member on multiple occasions?

Kind of off topic, but useful tip for the kind of person you're describing: anytime you get a flat tire, go visit someone in the hospital, go to a funeral, etc., take a picture.
This way whenever you want to fake something like that later for work, you can send your boss a confirmation photo to show you're not bullshitting.

If you are a coworker stop acting like a bitch and suck it up

I had a span of a month where I had to go to 2 funerals and got pneumonia. People thought I was making it up because it was my second month on the job.
People just have bad luck sometimes. If it doesn't stop (and if you are the boss) ask for proof.

Make sure the boss doesn't know what metadata is first.

Grace: Ed?
Cameron: I'm sorry, Ed, did you say you wanted to see a body?
Ed Rooney: Yeah, that's right, just, uh, roll her old bones on over here, and I'll dig up your daughter. You know that's school policy.

I would err on the side of caution and assume it is, more or less, true. For some people, when it rains it pours, and at least where I work HR or supervisors are not to go into detail why a person is off of work. I say this because in the past I've had long streaks of shite just not going right.
If they are not being truthful, it will catch up with them eventually and it will be handled. Don't worry and let karma do its thing.
