All,

Job opportunity has opened up within the company I already work. Considering posting for the job, but don't know much about Covington, LA. Would you leave The Woodlands, TX to live in Covington, LA? What are your likes/dislikes about the place? How about crime, schools, etc?

Help is appreciated.

It's like a much smaller, more boring Woodlands.

Nice place. Would rather Mandeville/Madisonville area. Don't know about leaving the Woodlands for it. Best schools in the state. Crime low.

Absolutely. It is the best place in Louisiana to raise a family. It's close enough to New Orleans to go whenever you want, but far enough away that it doesn't come to you. Great schools, great restaurants, beautiful neighborhoods, surprisingly decent bars. It's just a perfect all around Louisiana suburb.

If you have a family, it's a great place to live. However, don't believe the hype about the schools -- plan to put your kids in St. Paul's and St. Scholastica.

Yes, it's a great place. Low crime, short ride to NOLA, nice neighborhoods and decent shopping close by.

Yes.

Don't let anyone tell you CHS is a good school, it's not. You will have to go private.

Covington is like the Woodlands equivalent in the new orleans area.

Great schools. No crime. Great place to raise a family. New Orleans under an hour away. I loved growing up there. Not ideal for just out of college as there are just a lot of people here raising families, but if you're in that group, it's ideal.

Having grown up in Covington and spent time in the Woodlands I would much rather live in the Woodlands. A lot more to do/going on in the Woodlands. If you are married with kids and are looking at a big pay raise then it is worth it.

I thought they were trying to shop people to Houston out of the Cov office?

Either way there is a ton of faggy Aggies at that office so you should feel right at home.

What is the best public school on the northshore? Northshore HS?

I have been to Mandeville to party on the lake front a few times. We always stop at the Winn Dixie right off the interstate before heading to our friends house...

Lets just say you can leave your running with doors open and go in and shop... It will be right where you left it

1) you work for chevron
2) covington is awesome, but real estate is expensive.
3) it's not really like the woodlands, the woodlands are definitely designed as a suburb. Covington was designed as a short vacation spot for the upper class in NOLA. It has a lot of charm and class. (Not hating on the woodlands, it's just a matter of fact)
4) virtually no crime. Everyone is old money and Lilly white. The very small pocket of minorities is kept in check by the gestapo police.

Mandeville and Northshore are about equal at the top.
