What about South Africa? That seems to be ok.

Basically any country with predominantly white people is your best bet.

I guess someone's never heard of the apartheid. I don't think you'd like South Africa.

I've never been to South Africa but people over here don't really get that we don't have what are called "slums". The U.S. has ghettos, not slums. I've seen them in Argentina, and they are just overwhelming.

I've heard really good things about Colombia from two different Americans who moved there.

I've spent a fair amount of time there, I really like it there

could you get a return on that investment?

It really would be worth it, I think. I mean, just living there with so many outdoor opportunities just seems too good to pass up.

Chile and Uruguay are great and stable.

Argentina is an economic basketcase and has been since the 2001 meltdown. It's only gotten worse in recent years. Basically all their positive steps in economic development have been undone. Last time I was in Buenos Aires, there were legit Brazilian style Flavelas in the middle of the city that were never there before.

Yeah, as I said there are nice parts of it, but there's still tons of violent ghettos all around.

Well no shite, just like a bunch of big southern cities

I would assume, but aussie and nz don't really want the high litigation culture like we have over here. Might be tough... They want engineers though

They are both highly educated in many professional fields, except math and sciences. If you're an engineer, they'll have a blow job ready for you while you're waiting in the customs line. They'll be desperate for engineers for another decade.

they seem to go through that every few years as does Ecuador, which I'll add to the non shithole list, pretty neat place and very expat friendly

Ask any South African and they'll tell you the country is largely ruined. It has nice parts, but 99% of it is a shithole.
The 99% thing is too high but it's been my experience that I agree with the overall gist that South Africa is circling the drain.

The power goes out randomly because folks who cannot keep the grid going are now in charge of the grid.
This is true of all national infrastructure and the security apparatus.
Would you live in Jackson, MS?
That's your primer.

I have a SA friend who says that they have peaked for his lifetime and the decline will last for decades.

You were in South Africa for 10 days. You only see what they want you to see. You and your buddies aren't going into the ghettos nor will you see them. You won't uncover any of their dark secrets in that period of time. I lived in Beijing for nearly 3 years, and I can assure you that my opinion of Beijing and China at large was radically different then after I was there for 10 days.

Botswana isn't bad. High literacy rate, and fairly prosperous and stable for Africa.
