My Company is allowing us to work remotely full time starting next month, I'm considering moving home (North Central La) to help my elderly mother.

Currently in DFW with a 10 yr old son, wife.

It's been ten years since I graduated LSU, and every time I visit friends/family/LSU/etc, I say, "How the hell did I live here so long?"

You're extenuating circumstance may be the cause, but I would try to move your mother closer to you.

Higher insurance, state income tax, private school all should be factored in your decision.

If you do that to him he'll put you in a crappy Nursing Home to get back at you

Your mom needs you. Move back or move her to DFW.

your son and wife may hate you with losing all the "amenities" of living in DFW. However, they will eventually love you for it. All that traffic and hustle n bustle in DFW. No thank you.

Get your son out in the country and teach him how to hunt and fish.

Family, slower pace of life, cheaper, solitude can be easy to find. I definitely could and probably will at some point. As stated above Ruston and that area is booming right now under their new mayor. I have also heard great things about the new charter school they built in Union Parish if that's close enough to "home" (I understand the good school options are limited in NCLA). I know it's quite impressive to look at when I'm coming up on the lake headed to the camp. If the opportunity presented itself I think the hardest thing for me would be adjusting to life with limited internet options . I have heard the city of Ruston is starting to get fiber, so that's always an option.

If I lived in the South maybe but after 20 years now in the NW no. I've changed too much and also can't take the heat anymore.

I live in North Dallas and there is no way in hell I will ever move back to NOLA or The Westbank for that matter.

There's no way in hell i'd take Ruston over DFW either.

That's my plan. After 30 years of military, I'm planning to head where there's still some land at a decent price and build a house. Of course, I still have 18 years to go, but right now I would.

I was gone for 17 years and came back. Mainly because my family and childhood friends were still here. Otherwise, I doubt I would have moved back. FWIW, I don't regret moving back.

The more important question is how much will your wife and kid hate you if you move them from DFW to North Cenla.

Cedar Creek is in your future.

ETA: I know someone who moved from Colorado back to Monroe for the same reason. It was not without its challenges but I don't think they regret it.
