forgive me but did Jazzland REALLY crash and burn? Or was it more of a mismanaged Six Flags corporation that failed to keep it relevant?
Also, didn't Katrina destroy Jazzland beyond repair along with displacing most of their targeted demographic?

Pretty sure jazz land became a hell hole before Katrina

Six Flags was horribly mismanaged and heavily debt ridden. I feel that had the company been in a better position they would have been able to keep Jazzland relevant with new attractions and better upkeep.
The company had a bit of an investor revolt going on in the early 00's

I hope one day that NOLA could support a major theme park especially a water park but right now it would just be another Blue Bayou but on a larger scale.

This.
Astroworld was shut down too, and it had nothing to do with a storm and everything to do with it becoming a summer babysitter for hoodrats.

It can't support a Top Golf much less a Disney

If it was as you say, then Louisiana wouldn't have to support it, as many from outside the state would flock here. But NO ONE has come close to putting together anything that comes close to rivaling Disney's theme parks. Disney has 9 out of the top 10 theme parks world wide for attendance.
So if Disney put a theme park here, yes, Louisiana would support it and it would work. If a group of Louisiana investors put together a theme park, you'll get dixie landing, jazzland, and ponchatrain beach all mixed together.

Disney succeeds because it has a pipeline of movies and entertainment media that kids are familiar with and recognize when visiting the parks. For the most part, Universal does as well.
Let me know how every other generic six flags type park around the country is doing. (Hint: not great)

No it wouldn't. New Orleans and Baton Rouge are doing a good job of preventing good things from happening by just killing everyone

Even if they could, they should invest resources elsewhere so the state isn't dependent on more white trash vacationers to drive revenues.

You don't need a pipeline of movies to build a successful theme park.
Look at places with the best roller coasters such as Cedar Point in Ohio and Busch Gardens as an example.
You simply need to have great rides and a clean park.
Given the level of tourism that comes into NOLA I could see a theme park being successful (in the future) if it is in the right location and runs free shuttles from the downtown hotel district.
Would it be a Disney World killer? No but it could still be a great place to go.

I wonder how much money this dude has stolen from people.

They can't even keep the city clean, what makes you think they can keep a park clean?

Hopefully the private theme park operators would have someone better than Mitch Landrieu running things...

I thought MeauxJeaux2 started this thread before I looked.

Looked a bit more on that FB page.
$400million resort, and each person that gives $10k is promised 1% of profits.
Fuzzy math is fuzzy.

If you had a park of the size and scope of Disney World, of course it would work in Louisiana

Jazz land could have been successful. It failed for two reasons:
1) It was put in a terrible location. Nobody wants to drive to NOLA East, and it's not convenient to get to from anywhere except for people that used it for...
2) Summer Babysitters. People bought the season passes and then would drop their kids off when the park opened and would come get them when the park closed. Hate to say it, but paying customers don't want to see roving bands of teenagers cussing while they're walking around with their kids. Given its location, it mainly catered to certain demographics that did this.
I mean, a park in a not so great part of town with not even a McDonalds across the street that took forever to get to filled with loitering unsupervised teenagers? Sounds like wholesome family fun.

I think so, if of comparable size, quality and backing. More likely to succeed if it actually had a known tag on it (Disney, etc.).
But obviously it wouldn't be DW. Florida has a lot of advantages in that regard that Louisiana would never be able to match.

Could you imagine the workers at a major theme park here?
