could facial recognition software fid missing persons

Now that this software actually exist and we know that it works, could we use it to find missing people or even wanted criminals? Or has it already been implemented and we don't know?
I know Google sorts my pictures based on facial recognition and fb can do the same as well.

I'm sure it could. I don't know if you saw, but a couple of weeks ago someone posted a super high resolution picture of a crowd and you could literally zoom into each person's face clearly. It was kind of scary actually.

I was thinking the same thing....with facial recognition and the speed of computers nowadays, it seems like it could be done relatively easy.

It's kind of funny, that claims that would have been tin foil hat even 5 years ago now sounds possible.
Was in BR for the Carolina game and noticed there was a stereoscopic camera perched on top of those mobile observation towers and going through the crowd and I was thinking about how easy it would be for it to be analyzing the crowd against a police database.

I think it would take some ridiculous supercomputer to figure all of that out. I mean, you've got to select one person, and then scan something like an entire wanted person driver's license database to match that one person's facial features. Then, you've got to do the same for the next person. During the first half, you've got to do that 102,000 times.....all before 51,000 of the people leave at halftime

This is the basic premise of the TV show "Person of Interest" on CBS. A supercomputer is tapped into every camera, cell phone and computer to determine terrorist activity. It can also predict everyday crimes but disregards them as "irrelevant". Interesting show.

Yeah I guess it would be used more for finding criminals than missing people. Well, of course it would. But, the prospects of solving missing people issues is pretty good.

What is Biometrics?
It is similar for facial recognition. When trying to find a match on a database it starts matching fields on the records and if there is enough of a mismatch it will skip that record and go to the next record. Most of the time it will not have to match all the fields on each record so the process runs very fast.
