"A Nixa, Missouri, man who waded into the James River on Friday was bitten on both legs by a venomous snake and died Saturday."
"His girlfriend reported that he yelled he'd been bitten by a snake and got out of the river to find he'd been bitten twice — once on each leg," Cole said. "I'm not sure what kind of snake bit him, but the only venomous water snake I'm aware of is a cottonmouth. It could have been something else, but we just don't know."
"Cole said that despite his girlfriend's pleas for De Leon to go to a hospital, the man refused and instead went home."

And some people think a snake won't bite you under water. At least I have heard a few people say that.

Fortunately I have never heard that and just acted under the assumption that those evil frickers would gleefully bite you straight to Valhalla anywhere and anytime.

Yeah, I always ask them how they get fish then? I have seen so many fish being eaten by snakes.....nowadays anytime I see a fish "swimming" sideways...I know a snake has gotten it.

That would be a mistake if you don't know that it wasn't venomous.

I thought that a bite from a cottonmouth would be agonizing but this dude just went home and crashed.
Or is it the rattlers that have the venom that pretty much liquefy your tissue?

Don't google 'cottonmouth bite' and look at the images while you're eating.
