Coral snake bites are no joke, but you have to want to get but by one of those bastards.

Sucks for the guy in the OP, but just another reason not to be a hard arse all the time. If you get but by a wild animal, go to the damn hospital.

I thought that a bite from a cottonmouth would be agonizing but this dude just went home and crashed.

Or is it the rattlers that have the venom that pretty much liquefy your tissue?

They both liquefy issue.

Rattlers just have a more diverse cocktail, where cottonmouths focus on that one trait.

Rattlers have things in their venom whose sole purpose is to attempt to aid in victim incapacition via pain.

Northern water snakes are by far the most abundant of the three water snake species in Iowa, and also one of the most common large snakes in general. It is often seen by fishermen, who may mistake them for the venomous cottonmouth, which is not found in Iowa. This snake is diurnal, even during hot weather. It may be observed basking upon branches, shrubs, tree roots, and along the banks of waterways, often in large numbers on a favorite basking spot. Young and newborn water snakes may be found hiding beneath logs or flat rocks close to water. They are wary and will slip off their basking perch at any sign of danger. Some may swim with their heads above water to the other side of the bank or swim back to the shore in a semi-circle. Others will dive to the bottom and anchor themselves to logs, branches, rocks, or other debris. Most will resurface within five minutes, but they are capable of remaining submerged for an hour and a half (Ferguson and Thornton, 1984)!

If cornered, they will flatten their jaws and bodies making themselves look like ribbons! They will strike and bite viciously and repeatedly. If picked up, they will release musk and fecal matter, and in very nervous specimens, regurgitating any recently eaten meal. Even after being held for some time, they will not miss an opportunity to bite, and their saliva contains anticoagulant properties that make the lacerations bleed profusely. The treatment, however, is only soap and water. These are nonvenomous snakes!! The famous, and venomous, cottonmouth (or water moccasin), Agkistrodon piscivorus, is not found in Iowa. The farthest north cottonmouths have been recorded is central Missouri.

And some people think a snake won't bite you under water. At least I have heard a few people say that.

I've heard that shite before. However, I also saw one strike at a stringer of fish I had in the water on a riverbank. They will most definitely bite underwater, and those are some mean nasty bastards with one hell of an attitude.

Remember when Hurricane Gustav hit and made its way up to Alexandria. Only contingency city police had NOT planned for was when they walked out of the front doors of HQ and saw a big arse swarm of those bastards swimming down a flooded Bolton Ave. That's when you go back in and get the shotguns.

What about a bite in each leg?

On a similar note whats the deal with Shelby Stanga? I've seen him on TV let snakes bite on him. Are all you LA baws that crazy, or does he play it up for the crews?

Negative ghostrider. Copperheads aren't nearly as aggressive as Cottonmouths. I had a friend bitten by a moccasin a few years ago and while he recovered, he described the pain as unbearable without powerful narcotics. I guess with Missouri being the "Show Me State", this dumbass had to see what a snakebite sans treatment would do to him.

Re:the lady snake bite video I just posted. Is it because I grew up down south that I would have kicked the hose box before opening? I kick garbage cans I watch where I am walking outdoors. I have seen people from up North never take precautions.

Seriously this should pretty much be SOP any time right? I mean hell I don't go out in the yard at night without a flashlight....I thought that was sort of normal though.
