You think doing something perfectly legal is reasonable suspicion of a crime?

The cop even said that he has to ID people walking down the street because how else is he supposed to know if they are felons? He must be real busy IDing every pedestrian he sees.

I guess that would depend on how many dumbasses dressed like dumbasses are walking around with rifles hanging on them. You would not being saying the same thing if they would have stopped a group of young african americans walking through the hood with pants hanging off their asses.

I definitely think carrying a weapon down a public street creates reasonable suspicion and hope every cop would stop every citizen and check them out. If everything checks out, they should sent on about their way.

He has to ID someone open carrying a gun, cause felons can't do that.

quote:

People Who May Not Carry a Gun in Texas

The following individuals are prohibited from carrying a weapon (open or concealed) in Texas.

people younger than 21 years
people who are not legal residents of Texas for at least six months prior to the date of application
people convicted of a felony offense or charged with the commission of specified misdemeanors within the last five years
someone who has committed an offense in the past ten years as a juvenile delinquent that, if committed as an adult, would have been a felony
those under a court protective order or restraining order having to do with domestic offenses
people who are delinquent in making child support payments as collected by the attorney general
people who are delinquent in state tax payments
fugitives from justice
chemically dependent people
those incapable of exercising sound judgment regarding the proper use of a handgun, and
people who are not qualified to carry a handgun under federal law.
(Texas Pen. Code § 411.172.)

So the logic is that if it is illegal for some people to do something then the cops should ID people who are doing it just to make sure they aren't prohibited?

Yes. If you're legally doing it you have nothing to worry about. Show your ID and go on your way.

Some felons aren't allowed to walk down the street unless they are going to work, church, or to get groceries. Maybe all people should be subject to stop and ID? I mean, you never know!

The guy is walking down the street with a rifle. While it may be legal, its not exactly the same as walking down the street with a lollipop. Im not sure why people cant see the difference here.

What would you have the cop do when he sees some douchebag walking down the street with a weapon?
Is it not reasonable to expect law enforcement to make sure he does not pose a danger?

That cop is on a very shortlist of cops I'd have a beer with.

That guy was clearly about as intelligent as a doorknob. He accomplished nothing other than wasting tax payers dollars and when actually given a platform to voice his beliefs he was too inept to form a coherent thought. The fact that he went ahead and posted that debacle on the Internet is evidence of his brilliance.

I am constantly surrounded by people with guns. Usually concealed. Is a person less dangerous when they conceal their weapon?

Should people with CCW permits be stopped when cops can tell they are carrying? I notice evidence of concealed guns all the time here in Louisiana. At the store and at public events. I see them all the time at concerts downtown. Almost always white males between the ages of 30 and 55. Should cops detain them just to make sure?

Luckily we have rights that protect us from psychotic fascists such as yourself.

For the record, I'm against people openly toting around rifles in areas where it's unusual, but your logic sucks.

When will these open carry idiots realize that they are causing more harm than good. You'll NEVER convince someone who is on the fence on gun ownership by walking around town with an AR strapped to your back. I'm a NRA member and a shooting enthusiast but I find it really hard to side with the guys open carrying like this. I don't want to lose one of my favorite hobbies because some people want to frick with cops and the general public. This does more harm for the sport than ANYTHING else.

I'm all about some 2nd amendment but a guy walking down the street with a rifle strapped to his back and wearing a kilt is going to raise a question or two. I'm about 5 minutes in and the cop seems to be handling it well.

Bingo. You CAN but it doesn't mean you should all the time...especially when you're wearing a kilt and rocking an AR-15

I get the constitutional deal BUT come the hell on. LEOs have to respond to shite like this because if they DON'T and someone shoots a place up then the department gets fricked. The cop didn't come looking for a fight. He was doing his job be responding to a call. This cop handles it perfectly. If you're raising awareness for an issue then that's cool, just say what you're up to.

I've seen lots of Westerns. None of the Cowboys ever seemed to get IDed when they walked everywhere with their six shooter
