It's been quite some time since I had a Spanish class. I can still read a little bit and understand some, but I'd like to get conversational with it. The company I work for services Latin America and there is a lot of opportunity for an American with my background and experience who speaks Spanish.

What are the best methods for picking it up? Rosetta Stone? Local college classes?

Thanks,

Just speak English slower and louder, they'll understand.

Why do you think you're more valuable if you learn the local dialect?

Are you naive enough to believe someone, not American, can do your job, for half what you would demand?

My buddies that are fluent swear by watching Spanish television but you have to have a good grasp on basics first.

Listen to music and talk to people who speak spanish as a first language. Do that daily and make your news on your phone in Spanish. Vastly improved my abilities.

This. Another good app is called mindanacks. It's like little games that help you with becoming more fluent because you have to beat the clock to accomplish the goals.

Watching Spanish channels are good too. I always watched the news and novelas (Spanish soaps). The chicks were hot and I learned something. Watching sports and movies with SAP on helps too because you're already familiar with the context.

Nope.

There's a difference. Fluent speakers can speak the language pretty well and get around without much issue, but there's still a gap there

Conversational implies that you understand the local dialects, phrases, and idioms well enough to hold conversation as if it's your native tongue.

What? No.

Are you conversational in English or fluent in English, dipshit?
